iphone 3g question

good day to all, i just wanted to know which ios version is best for a jailbroken iphone 3g. currently i am on ios 4.0 version and ive read that it slows down the iphone 3g and drains the battery faster. i believe there is a fix for it that apple has made in the later versions of ios but what version could i use for this jailbroken iphone? thanks.
