What happens to the original iPad after iPad 2?
What happens to the original iPad after iPad 2?
Terribly good question! Keep it as budget item? More expensive iPad2? Or phase out iPad1?

Re: What happens to the original iPad after iPad 2?
Im thinking about 2 possibilities:
1. Keep the iPad wifi + 3g but with lower price across its storage options.
2. Scrap them first-born and offer lots of choices for the iPad2. (Sooner or later, this is likely to happen.)
iPhone(4, BLACK, 16GB) \ Macbook Unibody Late '08(2.0 GHZ, 500GB, 8GB RAM) \ Rain Design mStand \ Apple wired keyboard \ iPod Nano(8 GB, 3RD GEN) \ Audio-Technica(ATH-M50) \ Canon 1000D \

Just stay traditional. Phase it out.

iPad 1.0 will only be phased out by the 3rd or 4th gen iPad, imo.
iPad 2.0 onwards will come with front and rear cameras, etc.
knowing apple, support for iPad 1.0 will stick around for at least the next two generations.

>>> Yup. I'm sure that whatever firmware iPad2 will have, it will still work with the current iPad albeit with some limited functionality.

iPad 1st gen' price will be slightly adjusted.. iPad 2 will be featured in "Will it Blend?" heheh
seriously.. I believe the iPad 1st gen will be around for 2 more years and will still be supported by apple via the iOS updates, the iPad 2 will probably be priced just slightly below the White Macbook Unibody's price and the base model will have the same price as the iPad 1st gen 32GB WiFi+3G..
But the iPad 2 will definitely kick the other fledgling tablet industry and wannabe's asses so hard their CEO will do what Nokia's CEO did.. "lick their wounds".
imagine.. built in card-reader, front and back camera, longer battery life (to think the current iPad's batteries are good already), and the slickest design! (I believe they will redesign the bulgy aluminum back to flat this time).. wishful thinking..
AMD Desktop (2.7GHZ, 200GB HDD, 1GB RAM), 15" MBP Unibody (C2D 2.66GHZ, 320GB HDD, 4GB RAM), iPad Wifi 16GB, iPhone2G 8GB, iPhone 4 16GB, iPod Video White 80GB, 1st Gen iPod Shuffle 512mb, Grado SR60i, Dr Dre iBeats, Altec Lansing IM7, Fujifilm X10, Fender Stratocaster, Yamaha FG200D, Marshall Valvestate, Laney LG20R and a hell-lot-more toys an artist-musician would love.. ;)

iPad 2 will get current iPad price. iPad 1 will discontinued. The current stock of first gen iPads will be sold cheaper -until stocks last. This has always been with all Apple products. The only exception was the iPhone but that was a special case because there are people in the market that wanted a cheaper touch screen iPod but did not want a phone to come with it.
The thing is unless TUAW has actual insider information of Apple's plan for the first gen iPad. Of course, hell will freeze over first before any outside press get actual insider info on the Apple's product plans.

What will happen if you decide to have your iPad Gen1 battery replaced in the future? Will they give you an iPad Gen2 or Gen3?
