iPad not detected after a failed update
My friend just attempted to update to 4.2.1. He went away from the computer and when he came back there was an error on his computer screen (he cant remember what it said, something about not being able to find a file) and his iPad was on the connect to itunes screen.
Itunes is not detecting the iPad even in restore or DFU mode. When you restart it it just goes back to the connect to itunes screen. He has tried on another computer already with no success. Itunes recognizes an iPhone plugged into the same computer and cable.
It has not been jailbroken.
Any ideas?

Try Recboot, Its a tool that kicks off iOS devices from recovery mode. If not..repeatedly try the DFU mode. If still no luck..wait a couple of days for the official release of ipad in the philippines rumored at Dec 15 and send it for repair / warranty.

Re: iPad not detected after a failed update
what kind of cable is he using? I had the same issues with generic eBay bought cheapipay cables. They would work then after updates they wouldn't sync, but still charged which confused things.
after using original apple cables the syncs were fine. the cheapipay cables were relegated to charging duties on the powerbricks.

Re: iPad not detected after a failed update
Just to update this thread. The problem was solved by restoring it using a Mac. It seems the problem was with windows failing to properly install/load the drivers for an iPad in recovery mode. Although we never did figure out why it failed to work on another windows based computer either. Thanks for the tips!
