Default can i use my iphone4 in US?

    Honest question here guys,

Could i use my Globe-locked iphone4 32gb in the US when i travel there? Im leaving for the US on friday, and was wondering if it'll work.

1.)Do i need to jailbreak it to make it work?
2.)Or is there a program for it?
3.)If there is, would it void my warranty from Globe?

Thanks for the quick insight my friends! Godbless Philmug.ph!

If you are going to use your Globe sim postpaid/prepaid, just have the roaming activated and you're set.

If you are going to use other sim with your globe locked iphone, then it won't work.

It will work just like in any other cellphone; locked or unlocked. It will solely depend on your provider. If you already activated your sim card's roaming feature, then you're all set. Be ready for high roaming charges though.

well, that's the sad part of a sim-locked phone--you're stuck to roaming, and its attendant charges. if you're going to be there for just a few days, that won't be too bad (just don't take any calls, and try not to make any--all incoming calls, as well as outgoing ones of course, are charged in the US). if you're going to be there for weeks, you might consider taking a second, unlocked gsm phone like a BB or a nokia and using an AT&T prepaid sim with it.

of course, you could also use the skype app on your iphone.

i'll be there myself for a couple of weeks in late october. but i'm bringing an unlocked SG iphone, and have already pre-ordered an AT&T microsim to use when i get there.

As far as I know using a prepaid ATT sim on a unlocked iphone wont work.

But for the OP: yes that will work as long as you use your globe sim. If you want to use another sim, you need to jailbreak and unlock.

marche: GoPhone AT&T prepaid sim will work on the iPhone. Thats what I'm using. It just has to be activated first from the AT&T website.

Butch: I got my GoPhone AT&T prepaid sim from ebay for a steal. How much did you get yours? By the way, you need to activate the simcard via the gophone website for it work. This requires 2 things:

    1. You have to be in the USA already since it will send you an SMS code which will be your password in managing your prepaid account online.

    2. Most people don't know this, but for a GoPhone sim to be activated, it has to be linked to a GoPhone unit. What this means is that you need to enter the IMEI of a GoPhone unit during the activation process in order for it to activate the sim. It has to be the IMEI of a GoPhone unit, and not the IMEI of the phone where you will be using the simcard. This is just for activation. This I learned from macrumors forums.

I bought several GoPhone simcards for my family so we can call each other while on vacation here in the States. Easier to locate one another especially when we are all out shopping in a large outlet mall. But just as what I said above, a GoPhone IMEI is required. So, I had to purchase those cheap GoPhone prepaid phone kits that you can buy from any Walmart/Target/Walgreens. Cheapest was a Nokia 3102 for about $24. I then used its IMEI in activating the rest of the simcards.

However, I can make it easy on you guys. No need to buy a GoPhone unit. I can just give you the IMEI number of the prepaid unit I got so you don't have to spend in getting a unit just for activation purposes.

Not sure if its a GoPhone sim but when I was in NY last year I just went to an ATT store and bought a prepaid sim and used it with a phone I brought from Manila and it worked fine without entering any IMEI....not sure if this would be the same for the Iphones

Its not a problem if you purchase it from an ATT brick and mortar store since they activate it at the cash register. Downside is you get to buy it at a higher price. The simcards I talking about are those that are purchased from ebay powersellers. Those are the ones that need activation. I got mine for only $2.

    same here

    @davsp
if youre going roaming on an iphone, make sure your data roaming is off, otherwise your bill would be a nightmare waiting for you when you get back; for the things that we cannot talk about here in PhilMUG, go visit applei.ph for some help
