Applecare for iPad: Is it worth getting?
Just wondering. Is spending say $100 for Applecare worth it?
I mean I own a MBP and i'd say it's really worth it because it has so many parts and a million things can go wrong but how about for the iPad?
I mean most problems are software related (much like the iPhone) so you can always re-boot and restore it to the original setting.
Your thoughts on this?

The way I see it: the more portable the device, the more likely that AppleCare is a good idea

as far as i'm concerned, applecare is always worth it--saved me $$$ many times over all these years. as soon as the ipad is officially offered here (or when my ipad approaches one year, whichever comes sooner), i'm getting APP for it. also boosts the resale value.

I definitely agree with Sir Butch. It has indeed saved me a couple of times on my Mac.
I will definitely get AppleCare before my iPad turns 1 year old..

Re: Applecare for iPad: Is it worth getting?
in my experience with powerbooks and macbooks, etc., you can basically buy an apple product in country A and APP in country B, and be able to register it. it has happened that i (1) bought a powerbook in the US, and bought applecare here; (2) bought an imac and mac mini here, and bought applecare in the US. in all cases (and more) i was able to register the APP online (in fact, i've used the APP for practically everything--new screens and logic boards for my macbook air, new screen for my 12" powerbook, new power supply for my mac mini; my imac, thankfully, hasn't broken down yet.
and by the way, in all these cases, wherever i may have gotten the apple product or the APP, i was able to get applecare service here. i know that there's a proviso in the ipad warranty document that apple might limit warranty service to the country of purchase, but i'm thinking that that applies to the original warranty, not APP (don't quote me on that, though). in any case, shipping a defective ipad to the US for APP service will still be cheaper than basically losing the whole thing for lack of parts, etc.

Re: Applecare for iPad: Is it worth getting?
APP at $99 is less than 1/8 the price of my iPad, so for me that's a good proposition. I've already spent that, and more, in bags and cases for the device!
The only time I didn't get APP is for a Mac Mini, where the APP was about 1/3 the price of the Mini, and I didn't find the ratio beneficial enough. For MBPs and iMacs I've always gotten APP.

I'm going to offer the opposite opinion here. iPads don't have moving parts unlike Macs, thus are less likely to have hardware malfunctions.
If ever there are factory defects (dead pixels, touch screen not working), those issues will already be noticeable by the first few months of use and will be covered by Apple's limited one year warranty. After one year, the only way you can further damage an iPad is by dropping it, in which case Applecare would be voided anyway. Batteries are also not covered by Applecare. So if it were me, I'd just save my $99 to add it for my next-gen iPad/iPhone purchase.

You actually have a point. The less moving parts, the less likely it is to have a hardware malfunction.
But you'll never know when the lcd might just die on you right? It might be within the 1 year warranty.. Or might happen, say a week after your warranty lapsed?
I'd still prefer to have a peace of mind. The advantages just outweighs the disadavntages of having an AppleCare for my devices. I'd rather prefer that I have the Applecare and not be able to use it, than not have it when my device suddenly dies on me and I'm out of warranty..
