Kindle for iPhone - now on the App Store!
Heads up folks - the free Amazon Kindle reader is now available for download to your iPhone or iPod touch.
I've tried downloading a sample chapter and everything works as advertised. Huzzah! This will go great with my fictionwise, mobipocket, and eReader accounts =)
(Can you tell I'm an ebook junkie?)

Reposting this from my Facebook:
A Kindle for iPhone update - sending first chapter "samples" to the iPhone works great. Until, that is, you try and actually purchase something and run into the "geographical restrictions" snag. Hopefully someone will find a workaround.
Oh well. Back to my trusty Fictionwise/eReader/Mobipocket libraries.
Maybe I'm just sour graping but after browsing the Kindle catalog, I think Fictionwise has just as good a selection, if not better. FW is slightly more expensive for the casual reader though, unless you buy continually and take advantage of their Micropay rebates for loyal customers. Then you get books for "free".

Yep. At the moment, all the app is good for is for browsing the first chapters of books on the Kindle Store. That's not such a bad thing though - if I like the first chapter, I can go and buy it on a different eBook store haha! (or yeah, I guess maybe even go buy the dead tree version)

Good idea, Vic! hahaha... So it's like going to a bookstore to check out some books then--upon liking them--going online to buy them cheaper.

I was about to post up on this as well. It's a great way for lazy folks like me to check out books without having to camp out at Fully Booked or Powerbooks. This way, we can also preview books that aren't in the stores yet - nice. If I like them, I go get a hard copy.
I really wanted to get a soft copy but as you've said, our credit is no good. Paypal isn't accepted either though using a debit card from Paypal might work. Maybe GCs are our only hope, like in itunes music.

Hi. I just downloaded kindle and registered an account and my iphone at amazon. Everything seems working with the sample book which is delivered online to your iphone. What is not working is the Kindle magazines, newspapers and blogs - so I guess I will have to stick with books at the meantime.

Ok, an update for those of us without US credit cards.
Just like Shinrai said - I've discovered there is a workaround, similar to what you would do with the US iTunes Store. Let's just say it involves emailing GCs and creating another Amazon account.
I've successfully downloaded two books using this method.
Have fun, bookworms!

Thanks for the tip Vic. I'll try the method that I use for the Playstation Network and the Wii Points as well.
