The New PhilMUG Marketplace and Community Billboard

Dear PhilMUG,

The Marketplace has served this community well over the years. And even though we're committed to not making it the main purpose of this Forum, the Staff continues to find ways to make it serve the community even better. Thus:

We're pleased to announce an improved version of the PhilMUG Marketplace and Community Billboard.

To get you started, click the "Marketplace" link at the top of this page, to the left of Search. There, you can find FS (For Sale) ads for Apple-branded Products & Accessories, 3rd-party Apple-related Products, and Everything Else. To browse, use the search function there, click any of the three categories, or view the "most popular ads" list.

Under "Product Options" in an open thread, you can create a watchlist of your own (which you can view under "My Watchlist"), report a product, opt to receive email updates, post comments, and the like. For sellers, you have options like marking it as "sold", editing your post, etc. And like the previous Marketplace, buyers can leave feedback regarding sellers.

To create an FS thread, click "Place an Ad", fill-up all the fields (yes, we're form-type now!), attach a photo or two, and you're done. Sellers can place an expiration date for their ads (max of 90 days), allow bidding, set a buy now price, allow PayPal payments, etc.

However, in keeping with PhilMUG Marketplace policy, actual photos are still required. In fact, if you don't upload an actual photo, your ad will automatically not push through. Post a bogus or stock photo and the Staff will delete your ad.

But what about LF (Looking For) ads? Due to some technical matters, we have decided to place all LF threads under the new Community Billboard section of the Forum (located in the main forum page). Unlike the Marketplace, Community Billboard is not form-type. It will also house, from now on, ads for jobs, classes, seminars, trainings, rentals, missing pets, carpool invites, etc. It will also house threads on Apple Product repair services offered by some members and special PhilMUG offers like Johnny Air, PictureBooks, PowerPee sleeves, et.al.

Please take note that the Marketplace and Community Billboard are still only accessible to those with a membership age of at least 3 months and who have contributed at least 30 meaningful posts to the Forum. We reiterate that Marketplace and Community Billboard access is a privilege that one must earn and deserve.

We would also like to remind all members that the Marketplace is not intended to be a place of profit or business. Like the Community Billboard, it is here to serve the community by providing members good items/services at PhilMUG-friendly prices. Let's keep Community Selling in mind. Furthermore, we advise all participants to be respectful of one another, to maintain proper decorum, and to honor all commitments (whether as a seller or as a buyer). The usual PhilMUG Rules and Disclaimer will also apply.

In light of this development, we are announcing that as of today, existing threads in the old Marketplace will become read-only. All new ads can only be created in the new Marketplace or Community Billboard. Members with existing threads in the old Marketplace or old Community Billboard will be given 1 week to move their ads to the new one. After one week, the old marketplace and community billboard will be taken down and archived.

More details may be provided as we go along. Should there be any issues regarding the new Marketplace and Community Billboard, please inform Nino, me or any member of the Staff. Thank you very much and enjoy the new features of our Forum!

The old marketplace? It's now read-only, as stated in the announcement.

Sellers must move their active threads to the new marketplace or community billboard.
