View Full Version : connecting ipod to my stereo
bumblebee 05-22-2004, 09:55 AM Hi guys!
I was wondering if you can connect the iPod to a stereo so you can listen to the songs on a stereo instead of your earphones?
Is this possible? I just rechecked my iPod box but didn't see any cables that could connect it to a stereo...?
bagwis 05-22-2004, 10:01 AM Hi there. You can buy a cable for that. It's not that expensive. (except for the branded ones, like Monster, etc.) Just look for a cable with mini-jack (baby pl) on one end and two rca connectors on the other end. True Value, Listening Room, and other applliance shops have them.
Goodluck.
elbert 05-22-2004, 10:27 AM Does your iPod have a dock? If so, plug the cable that bagwis suggested into the cradle and not into the headphone jack. Otherwise, you could just connect the cable to the headphone jack.
BTW, at True Value, the cable costs just about P21.00.
The cable looks like this:

freelancer 05-23-2004, 05:10 AM Yup, I've got that one Elbert suggested. When I'm lazy I just plug it into the headphone jack. When I bought it a few months ago, it was P35.00. Nako, mahal na! :D
Martin 05-23-2004, 09:10 PM yup, that part was quite easy lang...i do the same to my ibook to my stereo...
my problem now is how to connect my ibook and ipod to the car stereo..help...:drunk:
There are three ways of connecting your iPod to your car stereo:
1) Tape Adapter
2) FM Transmitter (e.g. iTrip, iRock)
3) Auxiliary Input Adapter (according to some MUGgers, this is tops when it comes to sound quality)
bumblebee 05-24-2004, 09:20 AM thanks guys!
penmanila 05-24-2004, 12:50 PM hey, martin, you can buy a cheap tape adapter from any audio or appliance store--there's one called a "newstar" that's just a few hundred bucks. unless you have a state-of-the-art stereo system in your car, it should do you fine--goes in like a regular cassette (presuming your car still has a tape player!), then just plug the other end to your ipod.
Martin 05-24-2004, 06:08 PM the tape sounds like a good idea...but its a bummer that my car doesnt have a cassette na...how about the auxiliary adapter?how much is it...i think im gonna get the tape adapter for my dad's car, which still has a cassete...however, will sound quality be affected?
For the auxiliary adapter option, MARTIN, you may want to consult a professional.
MUGgers VIC & CHUT had theirs done by Mickey Pascual of Mickey's Autosound. Give Mickey a ring at 647-28-08/647-22-98.

freeformula 05-24-2004, 07:30 PM I'm planning to do the auxiliary line option since I don't have a tape player. Texted Mickey and the price for the installation seems very reasonable! I just need to find time to go to his shop! ;)

Hello, Mr. Elbert. :)
Is there any particular reason why it's more advisable to connect the mini-stereo to rca cable into the cradle than directly to the headphone jack? :wound:

i use the tape adapter to use my iPod in the car... it all depends on your car stereo and speakers... i have nothing to complain about sound quality in this kind of setup :D
jerichojanolo 03-20-2005, 07:46 PM Bottom line: get a dock/cradle so you will get better sound quality.
Use the headphone jack if you dont want to spend extra for the dock/cradle.
