I want to burn some cds, but I'm not sure if the track names, artists, and album information would be displayed if I do so. I have a pioneer deck in my car that can display the said information if I burn the cd using Nero of Windows.
Would Roxio Toast Titanium 5.2.3 or iTunes 4.5 include these information in the burn process as well?

Quickest way to check is to burn a CD using Toast or iTunes and check. You'll be doing us all a service by reporting the result of your little experiment. Please let us know. :)

From Toast 6's built-in help:

Turning on CD-TEXT

CD-TEXT is a feature that allows you to store text information like the disc title, artist name, and track titles on an audio CD. This information can then be displayed on consumer electronic devices that support CD-TEXT information.

You can enable the feature on your disc if your recorder supports CD-TEXT and you record your disc in Disc-at-Once mode. For more information, see Changing Recorder Settings.

To enable or disable CD-TEXT:

1. In the Audio tab, click the Disc Settings button (or the disc title). The Disc Settings drawer opens.
2. To turn on CD-TEXT, select the CD-TEXT check box.

For Toast 5 – If you have the CD-TEXT box checked in the Toast preferences, Toast uses the following methods to add CD-TEXT to your CD.

Toast will read CD-TEXT information about the original audio from the Internet Music Database or from ID3 tags (in mp3 files).

Toast will read CD-TEXT from existing audio CDs containing pre-recorded information.

Toast will add CD-TEXT during an audio CD copy.

Note: Writing CD-TEXT is supported on most MMC3-compliant recorders. Some recorders that follow the CD-TEXT specification may have unpredictable results, including unplayable media. We recommend testing CD-TEXT on your recorder before using this feature regularly.

More information (Toast 5 only):

The Toast 5.2 and 5.2.1 readme files contain additional information regarding CD TEXT and its use in the Toast application.

@ marvinp: Thanks! I tried the help function but it didn't seem to display what you've got from toast 6. Anyway, I checked out your instructions and it seems to be on the right track. The interface now seems similar to that of Nero from PC. However, I have yet to test this function.
@ gonz and everyone else who's concerned: I'll do this when I get the chance and update this thread when I get to find out. If anyone else has experience with this though, please let us know.

Thanks!

Is there any way to do this on iTunes?

The CD-Text feature has been available in Toast Titanium since version 5.2, I believe.

I've burned quite a number of audio CDs using Toast Titanium 5.2.x to 6.0.x and all CD-Text capable CD players I've used had no problems reading (and showing) the CD-Text info embedded on the audio CDs. :-)

BTW, some older CD-RW drives are not capable of writing the CD-Text data in the disc's lead-in area. No problems with most current burners though.

As of version 4.5, iTunes still doesn't have the CD-Text feature. Hopefully, it'll be available in version 5.x. :-)

It should be. Just make sure that you're using Disc-at-Once (DAO) mode before burning. ;)

What Marvin said. :-)

To check that your copy of Toast Titanium is set to use DAO when burning audio CDs, go to "Recorder Settings" (Option-R), go to "Advanced", then choose "DAO" for the "Audio Write Mode".

Hi, peeps,

Say, I know this is a MAC forum, but perhaps someone here knows if there's a PC burning program that handles CD
TEXT in the way that Toast does? Namely, that it will capture CD TEXT info from an Internet Music Database, rather than typing it all in manually? Please let me know! Thanks!

You can use Nero (http://www.nero.com) to retrieve the CD info from the freedb.org (http://freedb.org/) database. You can also use it to burn audio CDs with CD-Text. As always, use Disc-at-Once mode instead of Track-at-Once when burning. ;-)
