i'm here in san francisco, going to visit the apple store in a few days. planning to pick up a ipod. but i can't decide between ipod mini and ipod 15gb. help me please.

If I were faced with your choice, I'd go with the 15Gb. On my iMac alone, I already have 6 gigs of AAC's and MP3's, so the 4Gb iPod mini just won't have enough storage for my entire music library. I would also like to be able to use the iPod as an external hard drive as well as to store my music. I don't really care about the added portability of the mini versus the slightly bulkier 15Gb model, because I'll be using the iPod primarily in my car. If I ever do carry it around, it will be safely tucked away in my backpack, not clipped to my belt or arm, ready to be snatched.

If your reasons for getting an iPod are similar to mine, then you should choose the 15Gb. But if you value the mini's small size, choice of colors and greater portability , and can live with just 1/4 of the storage space, then you should choose the mini.

I'd go for the 15GB iPod. Mainly for the extra storage. But frankly, I only have about 3 GB of music in my iTunes Library. But still, the extra storage could come in handy.

15gig no brainer;)

How much music do you currently have? If you are already counting in gigs, might as well get the 15gb iPod. You'd want to take it all with you.

i don't really want to take all of my music with me. besides the 15gb won't fit all of my music. i was considering the ipod mini because of the portability. i will be doing some travelling around north america.

You guys must have lots of stuffz in your iPod :P

Still my vote stays with the mini. Well if your really need the extra space you're still cool with the 15gb version. :cool:

Sounds like you're leaning more toward the mini. I guess you already know in your heart which one you really want. ;)

i suggest the 15gb version.. if you're like me, sobrang burara, the small ipod mini might end up getting flushed down the toilette.. plus its just a couple of dollars more.. who knows you might be needing the added space in the future :)

true. i would admit i am burara. i might just endanger the mini's life. and the space might come in handy. i will just have to go to the apple store and pickup something. thanks for the feedback guys.

you'll know what you really want only when you step into that apple store and hold these ipods in your hand. one thing i've said before is, if the word "storage" even entered your mind, then the mini may not be for you. you get the mini for style, not storage. still, if you're like me (very probably not--i'm 50 and pretty set in my preferences), you won't want or need more than a few gigs of music. what i like about the mini, apart from its size (small and light enough to drop into my front shirt pocket), is that it forces me to choose my favorite songs, to be selective instead of being omnivorous; but maybe that's just me :)

in sum: do a hands-on comparison and follow your heart.

i guess if your primary purpose is portability because you'll be travelling around north america, then the mini would be your choice. and butch is right, you get the mini for style, not storage.

on the other hand, for a few dollars more (wasnt that a spaghetti western?), and a few additional grams, you get almost 4x the storage.

me, i'd go for the 15gb version. as some car guys would say: "aint no replacement for displacement".

15gb hands down!! Space is of the essence. That tiny price diff for so much more space? Go with the 15 or do consider a 20 or 40. The iPod could save your life when you're suddenly in the position where you need to back up your other files as in NOW.

No offense to the reviewer of the iPod Mini in this month's issue of MPH but the Value of the Mini is not worth 5 stars.

Go with function. If you have the cash, then buy the Mini along with the 40G one! ^_^

for your 2nd ipod.. get the mini. but as the first unit, i would suggest the 15gb or even the 40gb. the size of the mini is very tempting, but the size of the 40gb isnt so bad too.

personally i have the 20gb version. bitin. should have traded in for the 40gb one :)

I'd go for the 15GB for the sole reason that I can use the extra HD space. Besides the iPods are sexy enough to flaunt. ;-)

iPod mini would be my choice: same great audiophile sound, better control interface, truly pocketable like a celphone.

In this case, hard disk space is overrated. Put all your music in iTunes and just transfer the 800 songs you will most likely want to listen to. Firewire makes even a full 4GB transfer fast enough.

ipod- mini . I have the 20 gig ipod which is almost full. however ... i don't really listen to most of the music there. I think 4 gig can store a fairly large num of music to keep you happy. Portability becomes more important for me since the 4 gig comes with around around 800 songs. That's like having 80 cd's with you!!! Of course if you wait for a few months ,apple will surely come out with a 10 giger mini.... then it would really be a no brainer.

Store the rest of your music in your i-tunes library and just manually-select your fav songs to your mini-ipod.

For the first purchase I'll go for more storage space. The 15g will truly be multi-purpose as already mentioned in the other posts.

I'd go for the mini if I only intend to listen to music.

I'm sure you'll end up more than just an ipod if you're going into an Apple store. :p I haven't been in one for a over 2 months now... (last one was in KL)... experiencing "withdrawal" symptoms.... ;)
