To celebrate the first year anniversary, one new, free song will be made available everyday for 8 consecutive days beginning today, then one song a week after that, from upcoming and new artists.

Aside from Foo Fighters (a song called My Hero, which is available today already), the other 7 artists coming up this week will be Avril Lavigne, Courtney Love, Annie Lennox, Jane’s Addiction, Counting Crows, Renee Fleming and Nelly Furtado.

What is unclear is if each song will be available for download for that day only, or will they be freely available indefinitely, which means we can just wait until they are all in and get them together. Better to get them as they come, I think.

I've started downloading the 'freebie' and even if it's not my cup of tea, hey, it's still a giveaway. Won't hurt to beef up my Purchased Music playlist :)

how did you guys get it? when i clicked the free tunes ng foo fighter i ended up sa list of songs that i SHOULD buy daw :(

Nemcy, the Free Download link should lead you to a page where 'My Hero' is highlighted. If you notice, instead of .99, it says "free" on the cost column.

Nemcy, you can add your Billing Info and simply select on NO CREDIT CARD. That should do it.

EDIT: Well, as of this writing (2:58pm) the BANNER is out. The song itself doesn't seem to be available for download yet. I seem to have a knack for catching iTMS at the exact moment they update their banners without actually having updated the content. Two days in a row na!

The songs can be shared, up to 5 computers with Fairplay v2. The problem is, your Mac should be authorized to play it, just like any other protected AAC song. If not, you can only listen to it on an iPod or by tediously converting it to an mp3 to remove the protection. ;-)

Yes, go, go! Got it late this afternoon and it sounds good.

Songs get released around 3pm our time. Sometimes the banner gets posted on the iTMS around 1 or 2pm but the song isn't usually there until around 3pm or so. (Di ba Vic?)

My two favorite free songs so far have been the Annie Lennox remix and Accidentally in Love (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=6907596&selectedItemId=690759 4) from the Shrek 2 soundtrack, available today only! Grab it now, great summer/driving song.

Now, there is something else completely different on the portal, some song from Simon Stinger, yet the link leads to a $0.99 download of the song. Someone's on the sauce over there...

I tried clicking on the new free song and I was able to download it. Maybe they we're still updating the database when you were accessing the link. ;)

I got them both too. Haimovitz and Simon Stinger. Does that mean Apple is giving away more than one a week? Cool.

So annoyed that i can register with itunes to download the free songs.. Would it be unethical to ask someone to email me the free songs to my spymac account so i could de-protect them? I tried using a philippine credit card just so i could get the free songs but no banannas :(

I think this is the "Discovery" download of the week.

My question is, How do you download for free songs that you missed downloading?
Is it still possible and legal?
