View Full Version : Your preferred iPod earphones
ditoy_eagle 04-09-2004, 12:19 AM The iPod comes with the stock white earphones, good sounding but might not be enough for audio fanatics like some of us on the list. The best option are isolating earphones which give superb detail to sound, but a bit heavy on the pocket.
A lot got the Shure E2c last year, a new model is available now abroad but not yet locally- the Shure E3c (http://www.shure.com/earphones/eseries_e3c.asp). There are a lot of good reviews about it! Try Google.
But for me just ordered the ER-4 by Etymotic Research (http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.asp) . Good reviews about the unit, and perfect for a sound engineer like me, not for everyone though.

Maverick 04-09-2004, 12:25 AM interesting looking headset... :music:
i used a friend's sony headset with active sound suppression the other day. Big difference over the non sound dampenning units...
I'm thinking of getting the Shure E3c
ditoy_eagle 04-09-2004, 12:33 AM The Shure E3c definitely has the best value according to most of the reviews I've seen, and the best looking and perfect match pangporma with the iPod.
I've been calling Audiophile since it was launched to check on local availability, baka a month or two pa daw.
danieldy 04-09-2004, 08:59 AM I myself have a pair of Grado SR-60s and Sony MDR-888s. The former when I'm at home and the latter when I'm on the go.
I've thought about purchasing the Shure E2c/E3cs but they're kinda... dangerous. Really. You can't hear anything but your music! :music:
Ditoy, did those buds cost more than your iPod? :haha:
ditoy_eagle 04-09-2004, 09:49 AM hehehe! Not more expensive than my iPod 40Gb naman but same cost as the iPod Mini plus shipping charges! ($279.95)
Easily justified because I can use it for my recording projects. I also do freelance engineering work- when I go to different recording studios, it's always a problem that I am faced with different monitor speakers, different sound everytime. With the Etymotic in hand, I can just plug it into any mixer or preamp then I am assured I can monitor the mix thru my trusted ER-4. ;)

Isn't it great when you have a job where you can justify expensive purchases, both for work and play? :)
One day.. when I grow up.. I'm gonna get some job that does just that. :)
Zauber 04-09-2004, 10:01 AM You get what you pay for... I'd go for the E3C. :music:
ditoy_eagle 04-09-2004, 12:31 PM Hey danieldy, my advice for a career best for you to be able to justify all these gadgets- eye surgeon. Championshipness!!!

oh yeah, definitely. Speaking of headphones, AsiaMiles gave me some Bose Noise-cancelling QuietComfort headphones last week. Generally, it's been given positive reviews.. but aside from the noise cancelling feature, I still find my Grados sound better :)
Zauber- with the Grado SR60- you don't get what you pay for! You get more! Really. ;)
CooLes 04-10-2004, 02:28 AM Mine is the Sennheiser 590 circum-aural headphones. Great sound for the money. Though the Ety's are tempting for real portable use. :haha:
theanimaster 04-10-2004, 02:44 AM That's a wicked looking set http://theanimaster.airwalking.com/mygallery/misc/emoticons/tongue.gif! I still use the stock earphones, though they're starting to get bad vibration... and it's not even a year old http://theanimaster.airwalking.com/mygallery/misc/emoticons/sad.gif! Does anyone know if my warranty covers this?
I use the Sony MDR NC-10 Noise Cancelling Earphones.
This was one of the first to appear on the market, and cost a bundle. It has essentially the same features as the newer models, which is to say good. It boosts the levels by about a fifth, and is a bit on the bassy side.
The nice feature this excellent, in-ear model has that wasn't retained in later iterations is the convenient kill switch in the battery pack/control bulb on the main line. It allows you to hear outside noise in case someone decides to talk to you, or enable you to hear where the 18-wheeler barrelling toward you is coming from. It's great on planes (and conveniently includes a plane seat adaptor) and other low noise-y environments.
It's an old model, but it holds up fine against most earbuds in its class.
bomalabs 04-15-2004, 11:09 PM I have a pair of Koss earphones (am sure ditoy_eagle will be familiar with the brand) that are just great. Pardon me, but am I required to list down my equipment at the bottom of my posts?
Kelvin 04-16-2004, 06:31 PM hi bomalabs!
Nope you're not required to put in anything :D The bottom of your posts is normally reserved for your signature and some people just find it more convenient to put in the different digital devices that they have just in case another member who has the same setup / device is having problems with theirs.
Going back to the Topic. I love my stock headphones - ok its another way of saying I can't afford those in-ear ones :D. Since I normally plug it in my car's radio using a tape adapter, I'm not that particular with the quality of the earphones...
jsaure 04-25-2004, 05:47 AM Just got a Philips HE592 Surround Sound Earbuds.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0001OY2W2.16._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
It's way better than the Apple In-Ear Headphones. Richer bass, surround sound effect, doesn't slip -- a real upgrade from the stock earphones. Here's the kicker: it's only $19.99 @ Target.
Question to audio pros. On headphone specifications, what numbers should one look for in terms of frequency range, sensitivity, impedance, and power input?
freeformula 05-01-2004, 05:35 PM I just got the Sony MDR-EX71 earbuds. I had them bought in Singapore so they're white! :) The ones sold in the States come only in black. Check out the MDR-EX70 review on ipodlounge.com. (http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_more.php?id=33_0_6_0_M)
softwarewolf 05-01-2004, 06:57 PM Hi freeformula,
Your earphone choice sounds really nice. May I aske where you bought them and for how much?
I never tried others. The default ones are OK to my ears. I did buy some rubbery replacements for the foam at Radio shack. Blue lang nga.
Thanks,
Junjun
freeformula 05-02-2004, 08:47 PM Hey softwarewolf, I don't think it's available locally. I've seen it on the apple store ($49.95), but only in black. I found out that the white models are sold only in Asia. Had my sister based in Singapore buy it for me. It cost S$80.00 which is roughly P2720.
freeformula 05-02-2004, 08:50 PM Ditoy! Ba't based ka sa Xavierville at hindi sa Pearl Drive? :)
This is TJ, by the way.
caloysam 05-02-2004, 09:28 PM Well, I don't have an ipod but I figured I'd give my :2cents: anyway. I really don't like earphones, because they suffer in producing a wide range of frequencis as opposed to headphones. However, with the latter, you suffer in protability. Here are my picks
High quality
- Sony MDRV700DJ
- Technics RPDJ1200
Value for money
- Technics RPF550
- AKG K55
super_ed 03-04-2005, 02:30 PM any alternatives earbuds? preferably white and is locally available.. I started to hear creaking sound.. :(
CooLes 03-04-2005, 04:20 PM Been seeing a lot of white earbuds lately and am not pretty sure they are connected to an iPod or some iPod wannabe. Meanwhile just purchased a black Sennheiser MX550 a few days ago as a replacement to my white earbuds I somehow misplaced.
Maverick 03-04-2005, 04:25 PM I'm currently using the Shure e3c's for a few months already... and a friend of mine just bought the e5c at a really cheap price (Water Product as they call it, or gray market import)... I tried it out and it truly is worth the price... (especially at the price he got it for... no warranty though).

'ey Maverick, kamusta. Did your friend get it here in HK? Any chance you can give a hint as to where he got it?
jepaz 03-07-2005, 11:29 AM Bought a Shure E2c just over the weekend at Audiophile. Tried the E5c and sure indeed a good buy but way beyond my budget though.

jepaz 03-10-2005, 06:16 PM I went to Digital Walker the other night, they have earphones there you can choose from. You can also check the other stores within Park Square 1...that is if you are in Makati area.
i was in park square kanina wala ako nakita nag bebenta na matinong earphones meron dun pinaka maganda ata nakita ko aiwa na e. i did not go to digital walker kasi i thought they just sell cases there heheh thanks for the info
hubes 03-10-2005, 10:34 PM I hardly use headphones since I'm often on the road but if I have to I use my Sony MDR-G74SL (http://www.minidisco.com/mdr-g74sl.html) headphones. Got it for my MD since it had a short cord but with the extension it works fine with the iPod. Bought it in the U.S. but it's made in our very own shores!
For those with the budget check out Ultimate Ears (http://www.ultimateears.com/). They make custom earphones and these (http://www.ultimateears.com/clientele.htm) are some of their clients.

penmanila 03-23-2005, 11:14 AM i just ordered a pair of shure e3c earphones from comp-u-plus for delivery to my sister in virginia, for $124.90 total. i hope they're worth it!
yoyomar 03-23-2005, 11:51 AM These (Pioneer SE-CL20) are what's plugged & delivering them tunes to my ears whenever I'm 'podding around. An audiophile I ain't, but these sound better than the stock whities. Nice fit too, just have to be careful in crossing the street unless I want to be turned into street-pizza.

that's really cheap. i'm sure it's worth it!
penmanila 03-23-2005, 01:07 PM thanks, that's good to know. i used cnet's price tracking service--you'd be amazed at the range of prices for the same product--$109 + shipping on comp-u-plus vs. $179 plus shipping in some other places. of course, the catch was that comp-u-plus charged me $15 for shipping a pair of earphones (no cheaper shipping alternative), but it was still cheaper than others overall. comp-u-plus also had the cheapest quote on e2c's at $57, but again plus $15 shipping within the US. (and i think ditoy's selling his slightly used e2c's for P3.5K--not bad.)

They are! I was wearing a pair when we saw each other at Apple Center. I could've let you try them on but it would have been a bit gross coz I didn't have a pair of spare ear sleeves handy
wicket 03-23-2005, 02:23 PM been using the SONY MDR-EX71SL for quite some time now, nothing to complain at all:D

Bob Serrano 03-24-2005, 01:30 AM Just got really fed up with the standard buds from Apple. They keep falling off at the slightest movement and it's really frustrating when you're on a train in winter with thick gloves on--ang hirap mag adjust--you need to take the gloves off just to reposition the buds, only for them to fall off again 15 seconds later. So...
I just bid on these from eBay...
They're supposedly only available in Japan. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they become available there. Getting it from this guy in Montreal. They're called the MDR-EX81-SL from Sony. Supposedly an improvement over the 71s. Review here:
http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_more.php?id=5545_0_6_0_M
I have a audiophile friend here who has them already and he swears by them. Can't wait to get them.

krisc 03-26-2005, 02:46 PM I've just joined here for a more clarity on searching of accys for my ipod...
Anyways, i've imported a Koss KSC-55 (the behind the back, streetstyle like) headphones for my CDP, then to my ipod mini..
Pretty much happy with it (added a 75ohm adapter into the loop for more control, although my batteries has suffered from it)..

pardon my ignorance, krisc, but what do you mean by "accys" and "CDP"?
krisc 03-27-2005, 03:36 PM ok..
CDP - Compact Disc Player
Accys - Accessories
(because filipinos talk about ipod accessories here, i might find help on how to find availability of various ipod add-ons)
penmanila 04-05-2005, 11:04 AM ah, at this moment life is good. finally arrived in my sister's house in virginia after 41 hours on the road, got a cold miller draft from the fridge, unwrapped the shure e3c earphones i'd ordered by mail, and am now listening to "ventura highway" on my shuffle. glorious!
johnica823 04-05-2005, 11:43 AM i cant find my stock iPod earphones (for the nth time) and this post surely helps in getting me a new one.
alejandro 04-05-2005, 01:41 PM Im been using a SENNHEISER PMX60 for the past 6 months and have no complaints.
HooHaw 04-05-2005, 02:47 PM ditoy_eagle, how often do you change the filter of your ER4? By the way, did you get the ER4S or -P?
p3rsmag 04-12-2005, 04:09 PM any of you can suggest a good earphone, yung durable,
cos i often sleep with my ipod mini
...
now that didnt sound right!
Maverick 04-12-2005, 05:44 PM hehehehe ! :P
berns628 05-05-2005, 02:56 AM i just bought a sennheiser mx 250.. but i was not satisfied coz its hard to untangle the cables and the sounds is softer than usual coz i had to adjust the volume nearly 80%! when i tried using the earphones that came along with the ipod, i had to lower the volume.. is this normal? im now thinking of selling it and just buy another stock earphone since my dog ate the left earphone of my ipod earphones hehe malas ko!
ratburn 07-20-2005, 02:49 PM i just bought a sennheiser PX200 they're the foldable ones that encloses the ears. i am pretty satisfied with it. the sound is good. and portable compared to the HD202 which i also have.
jps444 07-20-2005, 05:20 PM i like the px200. had them for about 2 years now. happy with them. been taking them to the gym and all my outings. quality sound and stil not too bulk for me.
nargalzius 07-20-2005, 08:38 PM I use either Etymotic Research ER-4Ps (along with a converter that makes it a 4S) or FutureSonics EM3s for portable use.
For detail and accuracy, I definitely use the Etys (even over the "can" headphones)
For "fun" listening (e.g. booming bass), I have the EM3s handy... though I'm using them less and less these days since the Etys sound too good not to use. :)
doughn 07-20-2005, 11:54 PM used with my ipod mini green or archos av420 video/audio recorder
home: JVC HA-D1000 reference full size headphones
out: SENNHEISER PX-200 folding mini headphones
soon : SHURE E4 (charhoal gray color)
:D:D:D
Maverick 07-20-2005, 11:58 PM how much did you get it for doughn? the e4 i mean...
polar_bear 07-21-2005, 02:48 AM i wasted a lot of moolah on silly earphones untill i got the Shure E2C. kinda regretted not plonking down for the E3Cs hehehe
one thing i just discovered - gotta share - i travelled a lot for my work, and i really hate it when the announcements cut in amidst your movie and they pump up the volume and your ears just get blown to bits.
i ordered the level attenuator from shure (designed specifically for airline use) for around USD10 and it's SWEET! works just as advertised, and i no longer fly with my hand near the earphone plug ready to yank it out the momemt i detect any disruption in the movie
if you fly a lot, geddit!!!

right_stuff 08-07-2005, 09:11 PM a bit OT, but does anyone know where can i have my Shure E2 rewired?
Thanks in advance.
when i went to HK last May, I spent a considerable time looking for Shure e3c and was a little bit surprised that retailers were not aware of the brand except maybe 1 or 2. So I ended up with original Apple in-Earphone which with no regrets so far.
piayot18 08-08-2005, 12:45 AM kenneth, do you have logitech earphones? im interested in buying one, but i haven't heard much feedback yet. any feedbacks? thanks!
rogue 08-08-2005, 02:09 AM because my ears are "shallow", they can't seem to hold the earphones like apples' stock ones for long. so i got the b&o a8 earphones! best sound for me so far! :-)
also use altec lansing oyoyo foldable headphones for workouts in the gym. not that great soundwise... ok lang... but at least i'm not worried about the sweat getting into the headset. ;-)

I am guessing that this is not available in the Philippines. But anyway of obtaining this beautiful thing? How much does it cost?
The one from Logitech looks pretty nice too!
I got mine from the apple store in toronto last month. They had the logitech unit for demo only, not yet for sale. Tested out both and the iCombi sounded alot better and the signal was alot clearer. The logitech got fuzzy when i'd put the ipod in my pocket. The iCombi was crystal clear up to about 10ft away from the ipod. got it for CAN$170

CooLes 08-10-2005, 11:56 AM Though it's not bluetooth, wonder how this wireless Sennheiser (http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/wireless/sennheiser-rs-65-wireless.php) sound compared to my HD 590. Been eyeing some wireless solutions for my iPod lately.

Lakisalayaw1970 08-30-2005, 12:54 PM I'm a cheap bastard so I often use Radio Shack products.
For around the house or outside, this one must be on low around people to avoid blaring headphones syndrome. (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CT LG%5F007%5F003%5F002%5F000&product%5Fid=33%2D1177)
These in the ear ones are discreet for discreet purposes. Not as nice as the behind the neck ones, but they are fine for listening to stuff you want to fall asleep to. (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CT LG%5F007%5F003%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=33%2D1170)

mikeliwanag 09-19-2005, 10:01 AM Guys, how do you determine the "sound quality" of the earphones?
Btw, I read (somewhere in the papers last week) that prolonged use of earphones can cause deafness.
nargalzius 09-19-2005, 11:01 AM It would depend on what you're looking for in general.
There's a term used sometimes that describes earphones as "fun" to listen with, because they "enhance" the music without necessarily being "accurate." (like the real bassy earphones) Now while this can be construed as "coloration" to the purists, I disagree, and would rather call it "bringing out the best in the music" hehehehe. This is also the school of thought that most people subscribe to. Understandably so because you listen to music to ENJOY music, and not to actually "analyze" it.
On the other hand, there are headphones that aim for "accuracy" - and can be downright brutal to the music (you hear all the flaws, which trust me, isn't really a good thing for general listening). Strange as it may seem, I personally prefer this school of thought as I'm part of the minority who enjoys music by analyzing it hahaha.
It's good to mention that accuracy does not equal clarity - hence BOTH approaches still strive for overall clarity and dynamic range. This is a big thing especially since people like to have a lot of bass nowadays - which can muddle the sound if not done properly... ESPECIALLY if you're cramming it into such small headphone drivers (which are usually being discussed in these forums)
With regards to the deafness, I believe prolonged use at unreasonable levels can cause deafness... not the prolonged use per se. People don't notice that their "normal" volume may already be a tad bit too loud. You can't blame them since USUALLY, they try to drown out the ambient sound around them. So if you're in a fairly noisy room (not necessarily loud), you'd obviously crank up your volume to be louder (and possibly over the safe levels) without noticing that it is in fact loud!
That's also why people like using canalphones or sound isolating headphones nowadays, since they literally try to block off the ambient noise so you can listen to your music at much lower (and hopefully safe) levels.

Yes, prolonged use of earphones can cause deafness if the volume level is high. But the deafness here is slow and progressive.
'Sound quality' is relative. Budget is another issue since earphones like shure are at least $90.
I use Shure E2c--- Big Bang for the Buck!

rmshaw 09-19-2005, 01:15 PM i use a good old reliable (but big) sony mdr v700dj. when i dont want to lug around big headphones, my in-ear Sony MDR-EX71SL/WK sound pretty good too. they're black because (as mentioned by freeformula) they were bought in the states. i'm excited to get a black nano coz it'll match the earphones.
marizeltin 09-19-2005, 02:28 PM Philips HE592 Surround Sound Earbuds are good enough and they're cheap, just $19.99 @TARGET.as long as you're using an earbud type,it's noise canceling w/ surround but if you want just a little quality and less expensive, just look for a GRIFFIn earjam earbuds w/c is $12.99 and it comes with xtra rubbers w/ different sizes and attach it to your oldstyle headphones (given inside any ipod products)
Happy listening :)
danieldy 09-22-2005, 02:25 AM I've recently switched from Shures E2C to B&O's A8. My Shures died on me, and I found them cumbersome (putting them in and out of my ear). The A8s are great– both sonically and aesthetically.
I'm using shure e2c's right now and they sound pretty good, hopefully they last for a while
dante 09-22-2005, 11:28 AM Shure E3c earphones with the foam inserts. The sound isolation is great. I play my shuffle at moderate volumes even at the gym where they blast you with loud music. And you get audiophile quality sound from your ipod. ;)

dominiquejames 09-22-2005, 08:54 PM Or, how about this from XtremeMac! If AltecLansing's inMotion earphones have been developed in cooperation with Etymotic Research, this earphone has been created in collaboration with FutureSonic. Both new earphones are comfortably priced as well.

MaLt- 09-22-2005, 09:03 PM mine is Apple's iPod In-Ear Headphones :D
The inmotion earphones are priced at $149.99 and $199.99, you can get a shure e2c for ~ 4,500 pesos and a shure e3c for ~9500 pesos pretty comparable pricewise. If the inmotions are based on etymotic they should sound pretty good.

Some earphones are capable of producing levels in excess of 130 dB SPL. Prolonged exposure to these kinds of levels will likely cause hearing loss. It is up to each user to be responsible for protecting his/her hearing.

I was aiming for the shure before. For me Shure is good for Jazz, bossa and the like. But most of my music are Hed Kandi, chillout and rnb..So I tested the Bose and fell in love with it.. you need to try them out for yourself to appreciate it. there are a lot of stores in Glorietta that let's you test out the shure earphones. and might as well drop by Bose store in Glorietta din, look for Eldar and ask to try out the Bose Triport..;)

Pair of old Philips earbuds with volume control for Jogging
docnap 06-26-2007, 10:12 AM I have both the Shure E2c and the Bose Triport. For better sound isolation, I go for the Shures. Likewise the high notes are clearer with the Shure. For bass response, I like the Bose better. The Bose is more comfortable to wear too. Their in-ear silicone attachment was well-designed, although as stated, it lacks in sound isolation. This is better in accident-prevention though. HTH
Shadowfox 07-02-2007, 04:17 PM The iPod or Sony earbud will do me fine. The bundled iPod earphones sound okay but it falls off especially when I'm out for a little run.
reorx 07-02-2007, 05:13 PM Current ipod headphones: Grado Sr-60
Headphones ive used in the past:
stock ibuds
Senheiser px200
Sony ex-71
Philips In-ear lanyard
this is what i'm currently using...
Philips SHN2500 active noise cancelling earphones... good enough to block out wind noise and my sportbike's engine noise even at moderate listening levels... major plus is they're cheaper than the vmoda bassfreq i used to have...
downside is that it requires a battery for the active noise cancelling circuitry

Etymotics er-4s to the Etyomtics er-4p?
well.. I've been reading reviews online.. mas maganda daw yun tunog ng 4s.. when used along with a home system.. but PHYSICALLY, anong difference niya.. as far as i know.. parang wala naman difference physically in terms of looks.. may iba bang kasama yun 4s na wala sa 4p? parang ganon.. help naman
Thanks.
reorx 07-24-2007, 02:26 AM Answer from a headphone site I frequent:
1.) The difference between the two models is ONLY impedance. The ER4S has significantly more impedance then the ER4P, which is very low so portable players like iPods can drive them easily. It is because of that low impedance why some may hear more (does not mean better) bass from the ER4P, yet it is not defined.

I've tried the shure e2c at Powermac center good buy. But for me its still pricey but since price doesnt' bother you go for it.
The sound was very clear and isolate the outside noise good for house, techno, and RnB but dont make the volume too loud it will damage your ear drums because the sounds are very solid and amplifies the normal volume from yor ipod settings even in low volume settings its already loud. ;)
I hope when this got on sale I will buy this one.

How big is it? Does your iPod Touch still fits in your pocket?
How much did it cost you? And where did you buy them? Thanks.
artagnan5 03-12-2008, 07:15 PM of course, ipod still fits inside my pocket. The audio trasmitter is not the big after all, its as big as your thumb. The headset is a retractable one. The thing I like most is, my headset can be connected on both ipod and mobile device.
Total cost me around 12K for both headset and bluetooth audio transmitter.
1st and 3rd photo.

omegalove 03-12-2008, 07:52 PM i like the original earphones that go with the ipod, i lost mine so im stuck with a crappy sony earphone
jm2ph 03-12-2008, 08:45 PM I use the Sennheiser CX-500 I'm very happy with it.
dreal_cornetto 03-16-2008, 12:33 AM cx300,but in the future,, i might buy cx500 coz may volume control,
bottomsup624 03-16-2008, 01:57 AM i recently bought the jabra bt 320s from pods (trinoma)... it comes with a free jabra a125s bluetooth transmitter for the ipod... it may not be the best but it satisfies my needs - listening wirelessly to the ipod when i am in the gym (with full controls for the ipod), using it with my macbook (itunes, skype, etc.) and it also connects to my nokia n92 when im driving... ;)
dominiquejames 03-16-2008, 03:50 AM The website of Ultimate Ears (http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimateears/index.php) have some stuff that you might find interesting. For the iPhone (with mic), they have the Super.fi. 4 vi priced at $149.99 only. Looks interesting.
topple2 03-16-2008, 01:42 PM hi, kinda OT but don't know where to put this. I can't seem to find the sony in ear swapping thread for the ear bud sizes. Lost my ear bud today while jogging. I remember I saw that thread here before. TIA.
jeff18 03-17-2008, 01:47 PM I've tried the shure e2c at Powermac center good buy. But for me its still pricey but since price doesnt' bother you go for it.
The sound was very clear and isolate the outside noise good for house, techno, and RnB but dont make the volume too loud it will damage your ear drums because the sounds are very solid and amplifies the normal volume from yor ipod settings even in low volume settings its already loud. ;)
I hope when this got on sale I will buy this one.
thanks for the advice. i bought it last month. at first i was really happy. it really isolates me and sounds great especially acoustics and trance genre only. But it lacks bass whenever i listen to rock and metal genre.. another problem is the fitting in my ears. im thinking of selling it and swicthing to cx500..:(
nikki_md 03-17-2008, 02:15 PM Can anyone suggest a good wireless earphones? I always break the earphones I use because the wires keep getting tangled up and pulled whenever I use my ipod in the gym. Thanks!
jm2ph 03-18-2008, 09:31 AM I see some guys in the gym use the jabra i find it a bit big thats the only one i know. use an armband for your ipod at the it might help.

Sound-Weavers.com 03-18-2008, 09:47 AM I use iGrado headphones (http://hotmusicgear.com/musicstore/B000KN0YEY/Grado_i_Headphones_for_iPod___BLACK.html) on my iPod, it is a fantastic sounding headphone. Big BASS, focused MIDs and natural treble. not harsh and non-fatuiging even during extended and high-volume listening sessions.
bedanmick 03-19-2008, 12:39 AM I've been using Bose Triport In Ear since DEC 07, and I got a second one which fits the iPhone too. :)
been using the same Bose In Ear for more than one year now and I'm just using an adaptor if Im using it with my iPhone. :p
meiroque 03-19-2008, 01:12 AM got hooked into in-ears since getting my very first set (sony ex51) last dec 2005 :)
heres my list in order of preference:
1. shure e500
2. ue super.fi 5pro
3. sennheiser cx500 / cx400
4. futuresonics atrio m5
5. panasonic hje70
6. ue super.fi 5eb
ive also auditioned the senn cx300, akg k324p, creative ep630, ue metro.fi 2, jbl reference 220, sony ex082, bose triport ie, ue super.fi 3.
what i would advise is for you to try auditioning them first since different earphones have different sound signatures. your ideal earphone greatly depends on your preference in music.
CruciaL 03-19-2008, 09:52 PM Razer ProTone m100.
The sound quality is like a CX500 (I bought a CX500 as well, only to found out that this is almost the same sound quality to my Razer m100, so I just sold my CX500.)
CX500 = P3,800
m100 = P2,000
The pouch can hold my iPod Video as well. :)

johannes 03-20-2008, 04:19 AM I've been using the Bose Triport In-Ear for quite some time now. It's definitely a step-up as compared to the stock earbuds. Sound is better and the fit is relatively more secure and comfortable. It's not noise-canceling unlike the Quiet Comfort series but that's alright with me.
Cost is PhP 5,500.00 in Bose stores. Accessories include a leather carrying case (which can fit some iPod models), a lanyard, a clip, and silicon tips that come in 3 sizes--S, M, L. Warranty is good for 2 years. And in case you lose your silicon tips, just go to any Bose store, show your receipt, and they'll give you a new set of silicon tips for free.
Im using a SE110 Sound Isolating Earphone. I also have Shure Music Phone adapter which i use for my conf calls with my Mac.
eli71724 04-12-2008, 03:28 AM question po, meron bang noise-cancelling earphones na less 1k lang ang price? nagtry kasi ako yesterday ng 'phones ng pinsan ko(ung kasama sa walkman phone) and naimpress ako sa bass...hindi naman ako masyadong audiophile so kahit hindi super astig(good lang.hehe) ung quality basta sakto lang:) ano pong brand ang maiirecommend niyo and san po magandang bumili?thanks everyone!

I guess wala cause isolating in ear carnal phones cause 1k plus already noise canceling is way up the price already.
Pls try Lover series of Sennheiser MX line up from 500 up to 1k Php. I dont know if they are sound good but as for some feed backs from other fellow Philmug memebers its good nman.
Skint 04-12-2008, 04:07 AM OT: Guys please educate me here whats the looks of asymetrical cable of CX 300 I was wondering correct me if i'm wrong are these cable phones different in length the one is longer than the other one?
Let say the Left cable phone is a little shoter than the Right cable phone and vice versa.
02xtrm 04-12-2008, 04:27 AM Wow, Ditoy- really serious looking set of earphones you got there. You also use them as reference monitors for work? I got me a pair of Bose in-ear headphones. Although I like the clarity and detail it provides, I get some distortion at the low end on certain bass heavy music tracks. My suggestion to people here who know someone in Japan, Koss earphones are pretty good and retails for about P700.00 (converted) in Akihabara. Interesting, since you get more bass as you push them deeper in your ear canals, more detail as you pull them outwards. A bit of noise-cancelling because of shape-forming buds too.

Yup.. couldn't agree more. Bought one for SR69 (700-750 pesos) not so long ago.

Was also wondering the same thing. I called Audiophile Ortigas a couple of weeks ago and they informed me that the E2C goes for 3,7XX pesos. Most appliance shops sell it for 3,9XX pesos. Last year it went for 4,9XX.

evilplan 04-24-2008, 05:44 PM Was switching between v-moda Vibe and Bang and Olufsen for the past 6 months until the v-moda cable frayed off the plug two days ago. goodbye bass :(
does anyone have suggestions? B&O are clear enough for daily use but the clips get cumbersome and they don't bring out the best in bass- or beat-heavy music. and i miss the Vibe's silicon tips. thanks in advance :)
Skint 04-25-2008, 01:51 AM @evilplan
Go for Sennheiser CX 300 if you are a fan of asymetrical cables,AKG K324p, and Creative EP630 they are all bass driven same output.
turtle 04-25-2008, 07:57 AM As for me I also prefer Senheisser. But I go for the big headsets, HD 205, and Beringher.

Beringher big headset for me too.. Loving the crisp of the sounds. But I can't bring it anywhere. If I can't bring my big headset, iPod's white earphones will do

Electronics boutique sells marshmallows. I dont know if they have the "new" model but they had the older FX33 which have lots and lots of BASS! I think its P990.
I think they are excellent value and I like the foam sleeves (I used the extra pair for my X3i). They sound pretty good once you apply a simple modification to balance the highs with the extreme bass. Out of the box the bass is way too pronounced but apply a "Kramer Mod" and things balance a bit better (but its still a Bass-head earphone:cool: )
Here is a link to the OP by user kramer5150 on head-fi: http://http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/jvc-fx33-mod-223642/

DON2003 04-26-2008, 12:52 AM I got a set of ear-plug sent by my supplier in Singapore as sample, cost a whoopy 25US$.
when I tested it, WOW! WOW! & WOW! 100% louder than my Shure, I can't even volume up pass half on my ipod, sound so clear and crisp,
I found my ultimate buds, will try to take pics soon to share, try to find one or test one on your next trip to Singapore,
I am so happy, all my officemates are so envy.
design is very simple and no one can believe it can output such sound and the wire is something like textile cord (like what the rice cooker & iron use), my problem is it has no L-R printed on it.
Jilbrik 04-30-2008, 07:12 AM for me is the eshure SE210! Cost 149.00 Euro

numbdensity 05-12-2008, 11:02 PM re:eli71724
To be honest, I am quite happy with the cl20, but it doesnt really perform well specially on the 'bass-y' part of songs. Worse, you may also need the help of the equalizer settings. Sound isolation is not that good, although-when it comes to sound clarity its a-okay. Its not the best but its ok. Its like 2.5 out of 5 stars for me :)

daigsz 05-16-2008, 03:24 AM Okay, these are not really earphones. They're headphones or neckbands, i'm not sure.
All i know is they give great sound. :) I use the Philips SHS390. it doesn't go around your head, but your neck. it has some leackage though. pressing the phones to your ears will give you perfect sound, direct hit. :D
but at least it's better than earphones with no bass.
