Is the "Love Actually" album newly released or an old release? How is this version different from the original version? Dominique James

mistermoya 04-11-2004, 03:05 AM 1. The Dashboard Confessional's cover of REM's Nightswimming. It being one of my favorite REM song's it was such a joy to see that the iTMS had it as an exclusive track.
2. Sting's version of Tempted by the Squeeze. It's a live track from one of his concerts and apparently is one of Sting's favorite songs.
3. Ziggy Marley's version of Drive from 50 First Dates.
4. Ben Harper's covers of Pearl Jam's Indifference and Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing.
5. Alex Parks' version of Coldplay's Yellow
If you're wondering why all these songs weren't sung by their original artists is because I am a sucker for cover songs and really spend hours looking for different versions of songs. I do have a gigantic bootleg CD collection that I've accumualted from my trips to HK, the US and Europe. ;)

dominiquejames 04-12-2004, 02:08 AM Guys, I have a question: A couple of the CDs I bought before Holy Week had the Copy Control logo stamped on them. These CDs are: "Lighthouse Family Greatest Hits" and "Janet: Damita Jo". I was able to successfully transfer a personal-use copy of the "Lighthouse Family Greatest Hits" CD to my iPod, but I couldn't do the same thing for "Janet: Damita Jo". Ms Janet's CD didn't want to be copied. I wrote email to Virgin Records, and to Ms Janet's website and fansite, and I haven't received a single reply from any of these 3 sites. Any idea how to go about this? Thanks in advance.

dominiquejames 04-12-2004, 02:21 AM I'm not sure if anyone digs Madonna, but with the arrival of the 26 maxi-single CDs from the US that I ordered, me and my partner was finally able to complete the entire Madonna discography--all standard release albums, all maxi-single albums, soundtrack albums, live performance albums, etc. Non-stop play would take 1.5 days. All of Madonna songs, except for the recently released "Love Profusion" maxi-single, is in my iPod, and it's like a Madonna festival to my ears! Kinda funny because listening to all Madonna music all the time makes it easy to identify her style and her music on a per "version" basis. Well, probably better this than listening to my complete discography of Frank Sinatra also all on my iPod. After Madonna, I'm thinking of giving rap a spin--Bone Thugs, Marshall Mathers, Master P, Bad Boy's, etc. And then crossover back to GOA, trance, electronica, house, world, and jazz.

Audio CDs with copy protection are supposed to be "rip-proof". At least that's what the recording companies intend them to be. BUT, most of them can be ripped/copied as long as your drive (CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, Combo) is up to the task (Lite-On drives are especially good at circumventing audio CD copy protection).
Since your drive (which Mac are you using, btw?) can rip one of the two CDs, I guess it's safe to say that they're not using the same copy protection scheme. There are actually a number of those: Key2Audio versions 1, 2 & 3; Cactus Data Shield 100 & 200, etc. etc. Check which scheme the Janet CD is using and stay away from audio CDs using the same scheme. ;-)
If you really need to rip the Janet CD, maybe you can try using a Mac equipped with a different optical drive. :-)
