View Full Version : APN editing now open for Globe!!!
dagger 09-10-2008, 02:31 PM Plugged in my iPhone just today, and got prompted that new carrier settings are available. Downloaded it, and checked my Settings. The APN editing functionality is now available!
Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network->
LeoCastillo 09-10-2008, 02:37 PM Just checked. Yes dagger is right! You can now edit your APN!
macdrive007 09-10-2008, 02:44 PM so does this mean we can now turn off EDGE by changing the APN, with the the iPhone-Globe's default software? No more downloads to install? =)

LeoMarley 09-10-2008, 04:08 PM ^ isn't that only for prepaid? i checked it out and it says prepaid.
gang_armani 09-10-2008, 04:15 PM worked for me,
once you install it, edit the apn to internet.globe.com.ph when you want to use 3g/edge, and then when you want to turn off 3g/edge just edit apn again by erasing h from ph
loko__loko 09-10-2008, 04:21 PM i guess they had hard time inputting the prepaid apn, thats why they asked apple to open it up.
birdieputt 09-10-2008, 04:36 PM worked for me after i have removed the apn mod.
dagger 09-10-2008, 04:46 PM worked for me,
once you install it, edit the apn to internet.globe.com.ph when you want to use 3g/edge, and then when you want to turn off 3g/edge just edit apn again by erasing h from ph
And if you're on prepaid, use the apn http.globe.com.ph

johannes 09-10-2008, 05:16 PM So, simply put...In layman's terms, we can now turn OFF both 3G and EDGE in the iPhone (turning it essentially into an iPod Touch with a phone)? Am I right?
estatiktik 09-10-2008, 05:19 PM IMO its just a way to avoid unwanted data charges when outside local wifi range...

DON2003 09-10-2008, 05:59 PM I really confused na kasi, sorry for so makulit.
delete the APN disabler profile then update with the Carrier setting from iTune will let us have the network APN editor, is it right?
for Postpaid, no need to do anything but just use the default, or use which APN?
for PrePaid, download the profile for PrePaid? or jus edit & use which APN?
kindly list the right & working APN for Postpaid & Prepaid if anyone knows it, thanks.
to disable the EDGE/3G connection and avoid any charges, just edit the APN with a wrong one or make it blank,
pls correct me if I am wrong, thanks

viral_variance 09-10-2008, 08:37 PM this is the best update ever! :)
sorry for being ignorant.....i'm on post-paid plan....i was able to see the apn already and took out the the "h" in "ph" but the edge sign is still there after this...tried deleting the whole "internet...ph" but the edge sign is still there also....what am i doing wrong? do i have to enter a username and password? thanks for the help:D
viral_variance 09-10-2008, 09:04 PM nope, that is ok. you can't take those out, as they indicate what network the phone is utilizing.
anthony0420 09-10-2008, 09:26 PM Yay it works! I got an error on iTunes too but the iPhone got updated anyways.
DON2003 09-10-2008, 11:01 PM do I need to install:
https://iphone.globe.com.ph/config
bec I have update my carrier setting via iTune (7.7), no edit option for Cellular Network on my setting,
anything I did wrong?
viral_variance 09-10-2008, 11:50 PM hi don, are you using postpaid or prepaid? i think either will work, though i prefer the carrier update from iTunes. i got an error when i updated but it got installed
Greenie 09-11-2008, 12:08 AM Just updated mine
This is great :)
soon2owniphone3g 09-11-2008, 12:08 AM same here, i thought something went wrong with my iphone... it was an update pala.... currently studying how to jailbreak my iphone 3g. lol
IronMan 09-11-2008, 02:02 AM I thought this is just gonna be easy. But i cannot find that 'Cellular Data Network' on this path 'Settings/General/Network'.
I plugged in my iPhone 3G, then i got prompted for the update. There was an error. I just ignored it. How do i know that it got updated? :(
FOUND IT! I have to restart. Hmmm.... Hehehe.
viral_variance 09-11-2008, 02:05 AM IronMan, i got the error too, but i was surprised when it was updated after a day
englishrose 09-11-2008, 02:10 AM i'm so happy i've installed it successfully by following all ur instructions.. now i hope i wont get any extra charges anymore even when i'm using my own wifi at home.
IronMan 09-11-2008, 02:16 AM This is weird. Why is it that when i view my Globe Telecom Prepaid profile and i click 'More Details', i still see the old value of the APN? I have already restarted the phone.

Grrrr. I think i'm going back to that APN disabler. :(
There's another bug that i encountered. I'm not sure if it's related to this update. It's the passcode lock. I'm prompted TWICE after a restart of the phone. Very inconvenient.

If you use WiFi, you won't get charged at all whether you edit your APN or not. ;)
IronMan 09-11-2008, 02:21 AM IronMan, i got the error too, but i was surprised when it was updated after a day
After a day? Hmmm. In my case, i didn't see it until i restarted the phone.
louien 09-11-2008, 05:53 AM Same here. Here's me: bought prepaid unit, using postpaid line. Updated my carrier settings yesterday as discussed here. Initially downloaded prepaid apn, changed cellular data to postpaid one (internet.globe.com.ph), promptly removed the 'h'. But like sir Ironman, my apn under profile is still the original prepaid one (http.globe.com.ph). Is this how it should be? Shouldn't my profile reflect the one i typed in (postpaid)? Or is it irrevelant? Because I tried surfing without the 'h' and it didn't work but when I corrected it, it did. Unlike sir Ironman though, I haven't encountered any bugs like that password prompt he got.

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but you should remove the profile installed by globe on your handset. Go to settings->general->profile and click on remove. Then you can use the edit apn menu that globe opened yesterday.
louien 09-11-2008, 08:36 AM Tried that just now sir dagger. I see that even after I removed the profile, the CELLULAR DATA NETWORK which you can edit, ex. to misspell for strict internet use over wifi, remains. Thanks! (Though it did exactly the same thing a while ago even without removing the APN from Globe.)

You should remove the globe prepaid profile already, and just use the apn setting under network.
question... im always being prompt by my itunes on the carrier update and i never allowed it. Should i allow it? im using an iphone 1stgen. What does it mean if i allow it? what will happen?
yammie 09-11-2008, 03:30 PM Just an observation. Mobile me won't push data when I'm on wifi if my APN settings are not correct. (e.g. Using elbert method or removing the "h" on the APN settings) I already turned my iphone on/off but still the same. However, when my APN settings are correct, mobile me syncs on wifi without problems. Do any of you guys encounter the same?

BTW. This just happened after the carrier settings from itunes were updated allowing us to edit the APN.

MobileMe still uses cellular network data, unfortunately. It will sync over WiFi though if you turn off push and enable manual fetching.

Hmmm, then how come my iPod touch syncs / push via wifi without problems? :( as I posted earlier, mobile me can push before to my iPhone even if I use the APN disabler.

I think i understand why the one in the globe prepaid profile does not change even if you edit the one in cellular data network settings.
The editable APN is the actual setting being used by the phone. The one we see in the profile itself is the setting for that profile. I had this conclusion when i applied the APN disabler again. The editable APN changed to NULL but the globe profile is still the same. :)
And as for the bug. I stand corrected. It was not a bug but a feature. I enabled BOTH passcode lock and SIM lock. So naturally, upon startup i'll be prompted twice. ;) I realized it at the same i installed the APN disabler. :) Sorry for the misinformation.
paolobali 09-09-2009, 01:10 PM and internet tethering is gone.
Maria_MT 09-09-2009, 01:23 PM Hello dagger,
I had to change the APN to "http".
The SIM I've had for almost 4 years will not connect.
Went to Globe. They couldn't get it to connect either. Had to buy a new SIM. Now it's good.
1. Make sure FETCH is off in MAIL so that your phone doesn't auto connect to the web and download your mail.
2. Make sure you're on TIME BASED i.e., 5 p for 15 mins.
1. SETTINGS >>> Mail >>> Fetch New Data>>> PUSH OFF
2. Text TIME to 1111
Maria_MT 09-09-2009, 01:25 PM Using a Smart SIM:
Connected automatically and disconnected automatically. Got charged 10p.
What a waste of $$

No it has no connection to your WiFi settings. Your WiFi should work with or without your APN.

I can't use my wifi? I don't know the problem. I'm doing this because i don't want globe to charge me on internet connection.

Just reset the cellular data network settings then restart it, that should do it.
heymiks 09-30-2009, 02:36 PM Help! my sister gave me her iphone 1st Gen (FW 3.0). It was locked to AT&T but I managed to unlock it on my own. Transferred my postpaid sim on the iphone so i can finally use it. When I edited the APN, i can't receive calls/sms anymore. Signal's fine naman. I tried using a prepaid sim, edited the APN, and the phone works just fine. Wonder what's wrong? My postpaid line's subscribed to Globe's Mobile Internet Plan (yung P149 for 10 hours) - does it have anything to do with the problem kaya?

aces_fan 10-02-2009, 05:29 PM by editing the VPN, this would cause the "Could not activate cellular data network" right? I usually get that message even though im not using my phone. Is there a way for me to check what program is actually trying to connect?

@acnugteel & @glennp00
i think i experienced both of your situations - here's what happened...
Situation 1: i had a prepaid sim was that has served me for least 5years
Globe's Solution: they asked me to pay 50 pesos for renewal with it i also surrendered the sim + sim bed.
Situation 2: i bought a prepaid sim with a special number combination, it was a starter sim pack.
Globe's Solution: same solution to the first situation plus the globe tech girl activated something (she mentioned that the feature she activated doesn't come activated by default for starter sims) and told me i had to wait 24-48hrs before i can try going online via the iPhone.
these situations may or may not be in order of your situations nor are they exactly the same...
both solutions worked for me and i do hope what i shared helps both of you! :)
glennp00 05-20-2010, 10:48 PM tnx rycua, im going to globe tom. i already gave up on changing the APN settings.i tried evrything but still no connection. tnx again
putakti 05-21-2010, 10:22 AM not sure but i'm considering Globe 3G really sucks.. sorry to other globe user.. compared it to Sun and Smart , Globe even in Mandaluyong has no signal even if it's full bar the connection is sh*t
