does Apple Philippines offer Apple Protection Plan for the iPhone 3G? i asked Globe if they offer such a thing and they just said to ask PowerMac. i also asked them if they repair or replace the unit if in case a problem occur and they said that they replace the unit but what about my data files like MP3s and videos?

Globe offers the standard one year warranty. Buying an Applecare extends it to two years. Regarding your data or videos, if you can still back it up before sending it for repair do it.

as far as I know, for any brand even not Apple branded, data recovery issues are always not covered by the warranty unless if you specifically purchased a data recovery warranty. for Apple Protection Plan, here's the definition -

"This comprehensive plan includes expert telephone technical support, global repair coverage, onsite repairs for desktop computers1, web-based support resources, and powerful diagnostic tools"

So which means data recovery is not included. end users should always be responsible for backing up their important data.

Interesting that the online Apple shop (Philippines) carries Applecare for many products, but not for the iPhone...

6. General Terms
d. This Plan is offered and valid only in the United States of America. (snip)

Has anyone bravely tried to get AppleCare for the iPhone in the US, but tied it to a Globe-locked iPhone?

A few countries in Asia also have AppleCare for the iPhone, but we aren't one of them.

Maybe our phones are tied to Singapore AppleCare since that's where Globe brings it when they replace our phones for defects.
