Can anyone help?

I can't see any convert .aac option in Advance in iTunes, just create mp3. I'm a little puzzled by this since the song file I selected was already in mp3. Anyhow, I went ahead and clicked on create mp3.

I now have a 15-second file segment of the original song file. I dragged this 15-second file segment to my desktop and changed the file extension to .m4r, I can see that the logo of the file segment has changed to - Ringtone. However, I can't seem to add it to my ringtone in iTunes. I have never added any ringtones before, the ringtone tab in my iTunes is just blank.

I followed Brian Tong's tutorial in Cnet and he was using iTunes 8.0, my iTunes is currently 8.0.1 is this the cause of the problem?

Also, why don't I see - create .aac option in iTunes - Advance?

Thanks guys!

EDIT: I now know why I only see - create mp3 option, You have to change the Import Settings pala in Preferences>General>Import Settings.

Thanks Applei.ph!

However, I still can't add the newly created ringtone file to iTunes. Does anyone has a solution to this? Thanks!

You simply have to drag and drop the ringtone file in the Ringtones tab. By the way, iTunes will recognize the file as a ringtone only if its length is 30 seconds or less. :)

If you wanna customize a song for your ringtone, just drag it to GarageBand and edit it then simply share the song to iTunes as a ringtone.

Hey Courtside3 and Manolop10! Thanks for responding guys!

When I saw Brian Tong's tutotrial on Cnet I thought it is now simple enough to create ringtones using iTunes 8 only compared to the previous method of using GarageBand pa.

For those who want to see the tutorial, here's the link - http://cnettv.cnet.com/9742-1_53-50003920.html

I have created a 15-second ringtone and a 30-second ringtone. Both have .m4r file extensions already and both says Ringtone in their logos, but I can't add either of the two to my Ringtone tab in my iTunes Library.

Everytime I try to drag one of them to my Ringtone Tab, the green plus sign appears but after that, still no Ringtone in my Ringtone Tab.

I reviewed my iTunes settings in iTunes>Preferences>General and the box for Ringtone is checked naman.

It's really disappointing that I can't successfully follow a simple tutorial. waaaaa.

I make my ringtones in GarageBand. Its really simple and it can export the ringtone you made to itunes8 directly. After you make the ring tone, just a click or 2 and its in itunes ready for syncing

Here's a "how to" guide if anyone wants it. (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/ten-step-guide-to-iphone-custom-ringtones-in-garageband-08)

I make my ringtones in iTunes.

1. Make sure in your Preferences, the option is convert to AAC.
2. Select the song, Get Info.
3. Go to the Options tab, indicate the Start (0:00) and Stop Time (0:40). Or you can do it in the middle of the song as long as it's 40 seconds.
4. Click OK.
5. Right click on the song, Convert Selection to AAC.
6. Then you will have a 40 second file of the song, Show in Windows Explorer.
7. Rename the file to .m4r and drag back to iTunes.
8. Look at Ringtones, it's there!

I hope that helps. I am not sure it's clear though.

Really? Haven't really tried making a 40 second ringtone so I wasn't sure :) . But I've read a lot of articles that says it's 40 seconds...

TUAW (http://www.tuaw.com/2008/07/08/tuaw-tip-make-iphone-ringtones-with-garageband/), eHow (http://www.ehow.com/how_2160506_custom-iphone-ringtones-garageband.html), theappleblog (http://theappleblog.com/2008/10/30/tutorial-how-to-create-iphone-ringtones-in-garageband/) and iLounge (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/ten-step-guide-to-iphone-custom-ringtones-in-garageband-08) says you can use a 40 second snippet of a song so I assumed 40 seconds was the maximum

edit: found this phrase on one of the articles: Keep in mind there is a maximum of 40 seconds that can be used for a ringtone.

Thanks for that info Greenie! :) I only create a maximum of 30 seconds lang since having a 40 second ringtone is quite annoying na..Might as well listen to the whole song na lang instead of listening to it ring for 40 seconds.

I use garageband to make ringtones. just drag the music file, crop them toless than forty seconds then export, share as a ringtone.

Made one just now, great stuff! For the volume, I tried adjusting the dB but I think you just need to increase the ring volume in your iPhone
