Against my better (for lack of anything better to do :( ) judgement I tried Techtool Pro on my iPod. Although I could still access my songs it no longer would mount. I ended doing a restore and the grim task of reinstalling all the songs. :o

it's a suite of disk-maintenance and checkup utilities, like norton and diskwarrior. i suspect it was a lot more reliable and useful pre-OSX the freeware techtool lite was particularly useful for rebuilding desktops and zapping pram). i think people swear more by diskwarrior these days when it comes to resurrecting crashed disks.

The techies correct me if I am wrong. I think DiskWarrior and TechtoolPro were both made for OSX and not for the iPod. What I think happened was the disk utility messing up my iPod's invisible files. :(

Roger dodger! Give the man a cigar!
I remember reading something about this very thing somewhere in on MacFixIt. Or was it iPodLounge? If I find it again I'll post a link.
