Here's an instructional on how to stack the odds in your favor. Of course it goes without saying that you need to purchase the softdrinks in the U.S.

*From MacMerc:

Pepsi has stated they believe they will have to pay for about 1/3 of the 100 million songs it's giving away. That means 2/3 of the people that win don't care about iTunes. So I say, let's let them have the unlucky caps. They weren't going to cash them in anyway.

Your first task is to find a store that has the coveted sugar water. Just look for the yellow caps. Diet Pepsi, Pepsi and Sierra Mist all have them.

Once you've captured a bottle, use the below image as a guide to try and uncover its destiny.

The secret is the angle. I've found it to be 25º, but that's really no use when you're out in the field. Just tilt it until it seems about that, and look up towards it (hold it above your head). With luck, you should be able to see under the cap. Here's what a loser looks like:

It's easiest to read "again" and tag the losers because there are no random letters involved. You can spot a word like again from a mile away. If you don't see again and you have given the bottle a twist (to check from all angles), make a purchase. If not, hit the shelf.

You might find it easiest to practice while not in the store. Just buy a few and take them home. Get the knack for the angle, and it isn't that hard to pull off without looking like a huge tool.

Here's one way to get an iTunes song.

Tell me who I think is the greatest Filipino axe man ever and I'll u2u a Pepsi-iTunes code.

Clues -- he jammed with Joey and Mike, went solo with his 'blues,' married a Ms. Philippines, and his son's an illustrator.

And dali nyan. Maunang sumagot panalo ng isang kanta.

Sorry, isa lang e. Got a Pepsi from the vending machine at a local town center to battle the heat. Was about to toss the bottle when I somehow looked at the cap without thinking about the promo.

The school district where I work has a contract with Pepsi to set up vendor machines. Thus, I see a lot of Pepsi products at school. At school, I seem to be the only one who cares about the Pepsi caps. Co-workers have learned to look at their caps and give me winning ones.

Lucky? Not so fast! My experience with downloading from the iTunes music store has been very disappointing. I probably have downloaded a maximum of 10 songs. The other efforts have been a collection of disastrous experiences. Some songs never came in; others were corrupted fles; still others had a lot of noise. But the worst experience is the fact that I can't find the soundtrack for Fools, starring Jason Robards and Katharine Ross (1970's). The songs were recorded by Kenny Rogers and The First Edition.

Did I look for the record on the Internet? You bet I have. None of the Kenny Rogers websites make mention of the record. A search through the Reprise Records, which published the record, website produces nothing. Looking through websites for Jason Robards or Katharine Ross produces the same result.

Anyway, it really is not anyone's fault outside of me. It's the price one pays for looking up archaic stuff.

I guess the next move is this question. Is there anyone out there in PhilMUG who has a copy of this album and who wishes to sell it to me?

Hi radar -- so you work in schools as well, eh? I do Mac tech support in several schools in northern NJ.

Just to present a balancing viewpoint, I've downloaded about 20 free songs from ITMS. Had no problems with any of them. Download speeds were uniformly fast, and the audio quality was excellent. Cheers! :)

uh-oh. i can't seem to sign in or create an account. I need a US address and a US credit card to create an iTunes account. Is there a workaround? I don't have a US address and a credit card. :( Sir Butch, maybe you want to use the code instead?

As an interesting side note, here is a spoof of one of the Pepsi ads they ran for the promo, based on the classic Apple ad:
