I'm planning on buying in-ear earphones soon for my ipod bec. the stock earphones keep falling off when i run. i'm gonna use this mainly for running and biking. Is it a good idea to get the sennheiser cx300 or any in-ear model considering it's a noise cancelling earphone? i'm concerned about safety here. this might sound like a stupid question but i'm hoping to get input from people who have actually used in-ear systems when they run. what about durablity? - considering the sweat it might get in contact with. natatakot ako baka makuryente yung tenga ko. hehe. thanks for the input guys.

My brother runs with his Audio Technica CK32 in ear monitors. The seal isn't perfect so it lets some external sound come in. Enough to carry a conversation. But despite this, it sounds good. Way better than stock buds. But, then again what is not LOL. Of course a bit thin sounding compared to high end in-ear monitors. But very good balance and quite airy. Bass is good and very much present. Very comfortable phones for daily use. His 1 year old phones didn't wear at all. Sweat and all. He's into triathlon.

I don't think you will be taxed for this.

There is no risk of electrocution in portable devices. Capacitors employed do not store and discharge lethal levels.

just make sure your running in an area which is free from vehicular traffic...tried it several times jogging and i cant hear any ambient sounds...almost got run over by a tricycle...:slanted:

i am also into triathlons. ipods are not allowed in some races (which sucks) but i use my ipod regularly when i'm training (running but not so much when biking). choosing between a senn cx300 which does a pretty good job in keeping noise out OR a sony EX082 which allows aome sound in. it's really a toss up between sound quality and safety (which i'm still not too convinced about).

jogging is no problem but i would think you need all your senses when your on a bike since your traveling much faster. Also there are many drivers who like to get really close to bikers, its nice to be able to know they're there.

i guess bigger concern is safety as in-ears can really isolate you from your surroundings (tried this and i don't recommend it).

I always run in the morning during weekdays after I bring my daughter to school. I tried doing this with in-ear buds and I couldn't hear a thing and I always had to look sideways just to make sure. After that incident, I just used the regular ear buds while running and use in-ears while working, or on a plane or waiting for something/someone

I prefer using in-ears when running. I use the V-moda Vibe, which is excellent at isolating noise and stays on even during my sweatiest runs. It doesn't completely block out external sounds as I can still converse with people (when the music is paused) and hear car horns (even with the music on). It's running engines of approaching cars I don't hear too well. So essentially, it's pretty much the same as with any earphones.

I normally run at night in Dasmariņas Village, where it's not necessarily free of vehicular traffic.

Just make sure to follow standard safety practices:
- wear bright clothing preferably with some reflectors for night running (running shoes normally have some reflectors)
- always run against the flow of traffic, in the outermost side of the left lane. It's easier to dodge a car that you see oncoming, rather than one you don't see from behind
- always be aware of the surroundings like people, lights, shadows, sounds of horns.

Hi everyone. Where's a good place to go shopping for ear buds? My problem is the buds fall out of my ear when I'm running, so I'd really like to inspect them up close, rather than place an online order.

mine isn't actually a problem of not hearing cars coming my way...it's dogs, those stealthy mutts that just creep up on you while you run at dark and then try to snap your running feet...

happened to me many times already while using in-ear phones...so i switched back to the regulation ear gear of my iPhone...and yeah, i also bring a swizzle stick for whacking them pesky street rodents...

Hehe, that's why I prefer running at the gym. But I do use my noise cancelling earphones when I use my Ipod while walking. Just have to be mindful of my surroundings. :)

i'd prefer an over-the-ear earphones for running/jogging/biking since they stay put and still keeps you aware of your surroundings...

and as for the cx-300, everytime the wire of the earphones hit something like my shirt or my hand, I will hear the thump in my ear. So I can only imagine using it during running...it will be like..thump thump thump...

I use my old reliable sony ericsson in-ear's on my shuffle clipped to my shirt. can't hear a thing though. but it looks really nice since it's short, it's just the right length so there's nothing dangling.

When my V-Modas broke, I started using the standard earphones from Apple. I found it very cumbersome as I would find myself pushing them back into my ear every 5 minutes or so. Every so often, i would have to wipe sweat off of the earphones and the inside of my ears with my shirt while running. I couldn't stand it anymore so I wnet to Digital Hub and bought another pair of V-Moda Vibe.

Yes, the Apple buds don't fit my ears very well too. They just hang rather than latch on. In-ears are they way to go.

I recently bought Head-Direct.com RE2 in-ear monitors. I must say, these are acceptable audiophile phones. Not top notch but for $99 shipped, they are difficult to match. Very detailed and decent bass. Good head room too. They are analytical like Etymotic and my Ety designed Altec LansingIM716. Just a notch lower in overall resolution. Not much microphonics on the cable so it is fine for running.

I use my Motorola HT820 when I run. No wires and all that. A2DP rocks!

Tried running with an in-ear headphones, but only in an oval. It really does cancel noise so i don't recommend it when running on roadside or anywhere near vehicular traffic flow. :( The moment you posted this query, you already have the answer. Don't risk your safety. ;)

Just try running with those earphones that have ear hoops to keep them in place. Such earphones are made by Altec and Lansing, Bang and Olufsen etc. :) I saw one in PowerMac Trinoma. :) HTH. :D

I'm having the same problem w/ my apple earbuds. Thanks for the recommendation. How much are the V-Modas?

Has anyone tried a neckband type of earphones. There's something like this at digital walker but I'm not sure about the model number --

Ok I answered my own question by going to DW Trinoma. :) I tried the Sennheiser PX100 but didn't like the way it sat on my head. Not that it was heavy or anything; it just felt annoying and I think that's more my preferences than the equipment. I ended up with the Sennheiser OMX70 which has mixed reviews on Amazon but no neckband (again, I found it annoying plus worrisome when I do weigh training). Probably not the best sound, but definitely better than the earbuds that come with the nano. I'll test them while biking, running, and then weight training and see how they perform.

I use a pair of Shure SE110 in the gym to keep the noise level down. Have been using them for about a year already and have no regrets purchasing them. I loop the cable around my ear once before inserting them into my ear canals to prevent the earphones from falling off.

However, I avoid using them while cycling or running outdoors and just revert to my stock iPod earphones. I find it disconcerting not being able to hear almost anything while exposed to the elements (i.e. a honking car, screeching tires, barking dogs).

The Sennheiser OMX70 earphones I bought at Digital Walker Trinoma work great for exercise. They stay in my ears no matter how much I perspire and I can hear the traffic when I'm outdoors :)

The OMX70 looks good, I just wish they had it in black or at least a neutral color...

Haha. Yeah, me too. The neon green color is the only thing I don't like about the OMX70 because it clashes w/ just about everything I wear when I work out.

It's an old post but I can't help but ask, aren't swizzle sticks used for stirring cocktail drinks? :D
