View Full Version : iPod Car Mounts
elbert 10-13-2004, 04:19 PM Kai, let me answer your question (http://www.philmug.ph/viewthread.php?tid=3286) in this new thread, so we can keep the Alpine KCA-420i tag team review on-topic.

i purchased the Belkin Leather Holster (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=2 062&pcount=&Product_Id=156247) from CompUSA for US$20, which comes with a belt clip and a swivel clip/dash mount. It's great, but I don't think it's available locally.

The closest thing to it that I've found locally is the MonsterŽ iSportCase for iPodŽ (http://www.monstercable.com/computer/productPageComputer.asp?pin=2185), which also comes with as self-adhesive car mount. I'm not sure, but I think the retail price here is around P1,700, available at BoseŽ showrooms.

alvinbai 10-13-2004, 07:28 PM I saw one in Apple Center in Greenbelt. I think they're selling it for P2,600.00 They said it only fits upto the 3rd Gen 20GB. The 4G ipods should fit as well.
hungryalien 10-14-2004, 03:49 AM thanks elbert..
kung $20, medyo reasonable.. but if its php2600? sobra na yun.. a little more, ipod applecare na yun :P
maybe its time to call in The Supplier (charlie) and see if he can come up with something for us ipod-car users :)

Take my cheapest route, a modified Gameboy advance holder comes in white color too... to match the ipod.

jorweeck 10-14-2004, 09:24 AM If you're lucky enough to have a car with nice cupholders (my car doesn't have any) you can opt for this one being sold at @Games.
right_stuff 10-14-2004, 12:16 PM A cheaper solution for iPod mini users.
hungryalien 10-14-2004, 01:44 PM mike, exact fit ba sya? how does it mount naman sa car? pix pix!!
jones, ang kailangan mo? yun pang BMW na controller :P saw that cupholder type before when i first met charlie in 12. but the metal casing is kinda scary for the ipod :)
carlo, what is that? does it hold the ipod well? wont it slip from below?

Yup that metal one will definitely scratch your iPod over time, it's designed to be used with an iPod in some sort of sleeve or skin. I usually keep my iPod in a case anyway so it's no hassle for me to use the metal holder, but in the video I posted at the Alpine thread, I took the iPod out of the case temporarily.

Not exactly Kai, If it will be place on a cup holder it will work fine since it's not suspended vertically. Right of-the-shelf it will work like what jorweeck posted. The side are a not tight to get that exact fit we want, I'll just put some rubber on both sides to compensate it. Pics once fully done.
It's back is like the MonsterŽ iSportCase for iPod, it has a clip. So the challenge is to modify it to mount on the car. The bottom part has provisions for our Pocketdock so no problem.
For 99.00 pesos I could not ask for more.
:D
jorweeck 10-14-2004, 04:51 PM @hungryalien: I don't really have a bimmer. It's my Dad's car and it's just my interim car before my MX-5's ('96 car. cupholders weren't a "thing" then) rebirth. Then metal iPod holder can be used with those silicone casings so it shouldn't be an issue anymore with scrarches and stuff.
right_stuff 10-14-2004, 07:05 PM carlo, what is that? does it hold the ipod well? wont it slip from below? [/quote]
yup, it holds the mini well. but it wont fit the regular size iPods. Btw, its actually the belt clip included when you buy a mini.

Velcro... use the 3M brand, the one that has double lock? not sure, ill check it again.
Its easy to mount and you can just grab your iPod if you want to bring it with you.:)
right_stuff 10-15-2004, 01:47 AM iPod mini car mount.
Macmon 10-15-2004, 10:06 AM carlo,

but you'll need a pocket dock bec it the charger was originally made for 2nd Gen iPods.
extremyks 10-15-2004, 12:22 PM @carlo, where did you get the charger coz thats what I need and how much? Thanks.
[Edited on 10-15-2004 by extremyks]
right_stuff 10-15-2004, 01:15 PM @extremyks, got it from bidshot long time ago for 600Php, way before i got my pocketdock.. as far as i could recall there were two of them selling a car charger. i think they got it bundled with a cassette adaptor and monster cables for 2nd gen iPods.
Macmon 10-15-2004, 09:38 PM thanks carlo,
actually I have the pocketdock which is why I need one. :)
Thought it was the aai model by SIK
Just ordered one online.

finally was able to mount my i pod properly using the Monster's iSportcase. like what elbert posted above, it has a clip at the back of the holder that goes into the "car mount" so you can still unclip the thing and take your ipod with you.
freeformula 10-19-2004, 01:27 PM I used the Belkin Tunedok. :)

Guys where can I find this ipod car mount locally? I'll use this for my ipod touch. Similar design lang, ang important lang is sa cigarette lighter sya pina-plug. I saw the Belkin Tuneflex na but I didn't like it. Wala kasi siyang parang arm sa sides. TIA! :)
BTW, ok din if it's universal or adjustable yung holder mismo. So that I can still use my ipod's crystal case.
carloslegarda 05-06-2009, 05:45 AM For non-smokers, the cheapest iPod car-mount is the ash-tray. I pulled out my car's ash-tray one time and put my iPod Touch on it. It has a good tilt angle as long as I keep it in horizontal position. I use a Monster iCarPlay to transmit the iPod music to my car's Tuner.
after 2 weeks of waiting, my harman/kardon drive+play arrived!

i'll be installing this (if i can LOL) later.
i got it for GBP40 shipping included from ebay uk (http://cgi.ebay.com/HARMAN-KARDON-DRIVE-PLAY-IPOD-IN-CAR-KIT-DP-1EU_W0QQitemZ230296657480QQihZ013QQcategoryZ58350Q QcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3D LVI%26its%3DI%252BC%252BS%252BIA%26itu%3DUCI%252BU S-BWR%26otn%3D2%26ps%3D57). there are other sellers in the US but this one has a wired fm adaptor (though im not really sure if it's better than the wireless one). luckily, i only payed P35 handling fee at the QC postal office.
why so cheap? it's the old model so no color screen. it has issues with the ipod touch. it will work with the iphone/ipod video and later generations but can't charge (no USB charging, firewire lang).

I've been on the hunt for something like that. So far, I've found two promising candidates:
1. The Orange store in 3rd Floor of V-Mall is selling something like this, called the AllKit. I'm not sure but I think the AllKit charges the iPhone/iPod Touch too. They're asking P1,700 for it, which is kinda expensive for a virtually brandless item.
I was going to get it, but one thing with Orange store is that mahirap kausap sila Inday and Dudung (not their real names), parang parati galit e. :p
2. There's this on ebay.ph
Car Kit Mount (http://cgi.ebay.ph/CAR-KIT-MOUNT-HOLDER-FOR-iPHONE-iPod-iTouch-PSP_W0QQitemZ230342406079QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_211?hash=item230342406079&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A833%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C2 40%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
only P299! It has a gooseneck, but it suctions to your windshield, not the lighter hole.
Would appreciate it if you guys could suggest other nice car mounts for iphone/touch.

Hey I saw that AllKit car mount too in Megamall last week (forgot which store though). They were selling it for 2k!! I agree, too expensive for a "brand less" one. But yes it's the closest one we can find right now. It also has FM tuner na din rather just a simple mount (though it looks like a car mount lang kasi the number for the stations are located on top and it's small lang).
btw here are some links of the product I found.

Elx200001 05-19-2009, 09:29 AM I suggest anyone looking into getting the allkit try it out first. Yung nagamit ko kasi ayaw gumana, and the clerk was still trying to sell it to me! She told me that she'd have it replaced if it didn't work. But I didn't want to risk it.
I also looked for reviews of it online, apparently it makes a periodic beeping sound. There's a video review that showed it. I'll try to look for it again later.
Godfather 05-19-2009, 02:49 PM Forget Orange.
Found the ALLKIT being sold by this ebay power seller :
ALLKIT at ebay.ph (http://cgi.ebay.ph/New-FM-Transmitter-Car-Mount-Kit-Charger-for-Apple-iPod_W0QQitemZ320372592689QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_211?hash=item320372592689&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A833%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C2 40%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
Only P1,095!
I don't know the guy, never did business with him, so caveat emptor.
and also note Elx200001's warning above.
primo1 05-19-2009, 05:27 PM I also looked for reviews of it online, apparently it makes a periodic beeping sound.
Probably if you only use its built-in FM transmitter. I have iPod integration na din kasi sa H.U. ko so I wont be needing its FM transmitter na. I'll use this solely for my iPod mount. But that would suck if the beeping sound is true and the people used its FM transmitter. That would be annoying, haha!
Forget Orange.

So either you wait, or get the from Orange for 1,700.
I don't know why there aren't more options for goosenecked ipod/iphone/touch lighter-connected car mounts of this kind, since it seems to be a most logical and automatic need when using such a device in the car. Sana CDRKing has one.
In the meantime, you may want to look at this other ebayer, but his version is window/aircon grill mounted.

Juice 10-26-2009, 09:55 PM So almost all the car mounts are at vmall? Anything in the Makati or Alabang area?
primo1 10-26-2009, 11:36 PM ^ where are you planning to mount yours?
I have an iPod Touch and Belkin Tunedok (http://www.whiningdog.net/Reviews/Apple/iPod/20040611-BelkinTuneDok/index.php) and it fits perfectly on my car's cup holder. It serves its purpose well. But I don't think you can get one locally anymore. I had a hard time finding one before. Mas madami na ngayon Tunedok for Nano nalang.
Try looking at Park Square 1. Stores there sell iPod/iPhone car mounts as well. But your best bet is really at V-mall. :)
anyone w/ a more horizontal suggestion?
plan to use the touch as my in-car entertainment
