Checked out all the iphone threads and couldn't find anything that would help me. I have three email accounts, a .mac account, a gmail account and a pldtdsl account. I tried setting up all three in my iphone mail app. .mac and gmail accounts were so easy to set up. But I tried setting up my pldtdsl.net account and just can't do it. I tried using the "others" set up under the mail app. I thought it was my pldtdsl.net account that was the problem so I tried my sister in law's zpdee.net account on her iphone...same problem, does not want to set up. Can anyone help? Thanks.

You need to make sure that you have the following information in hand:
- Username (you may need to include the @pldtdsl.net or better yet, you might want to try just the username, which ever works)
- Password
- Incoming Mail Server
- Outgoing Mail Server
Also, you need to make sure that you select POP unless otherwise you are using other protocols other that POP3.
You might want to contact PLDT MyDSL for further assistance (which I doubt they will as iPhone is not yet officially out in the Philippines) or just gain the above mentioned info you need to set-up your iPhone to access your PLDT account.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your inputs but I've tried both and it doesn't work. I was just wondering if it was a ".net" thing because when I tried the zpdee email address of my sister in law, it also ends in ".net" and it just doesn't work. Thanks anyway. I've actually tried checking apple.com and the forums show that there are people who have the same problem in HK. Am beginning to suspect that there may be some issue with the apple software that will not allow me to set up the account.

Same as clemente, I, too have a pldtdsl account and I can retrieve and send emails. I don't think your problem is with the apple software. :)

You'll have a problem sending out mail using PLDTDSL when you're using Wi-Fi with a non-PLDT connection. ISPs tend to reject SMTPs they don't recognize, especially abroad. Not much of a problem when using a laptop, since you can easily reply using another account, but in the iPhone, you're limited to replying using the account the email was received in (i.e. someone emails your pldtdsl account, you click reply, compose a lengthy message only to find out it can't be sent because it gets SMTP rejected. There's no way to transpose your reply into Gmail or .Mac, you'll have to start over.)
That's the problem I have to deal with as an IT manager. That's why I've migrated all my corporate clients to Google Apps (https://www.google.com/a/), which allows the use of your own domain name.
BTW, when setting up Gmail (or a Google-hosted service like I just mentioned), it's best to use the "other" option in the iPhone (rather than selecting Gmail or clicking on the email account in iTunes). That way, you can set up as IMAP, for full synchronization. POP, the default iPhone setup for Gmail,, is not ideal. Just make sure IMAP is activated in your Gmail account.
HTH.

Correct, Most ISP's (if not all) implement a security measure called "SMTP or port 25" blocking where they require all users going through their network to use their outgoing mail server so they can monitor all mails going through their servers to avoid possible spam emails. You can only use PLDT's outgoing mail servers only IF you are connected using PLDT. The incoming mail server should not be in any way a problem as it is only used for retrieving your messages anyway.

This thread is a bit old but this is the only thing i saw closely related.Has anyone discovered on how to set up an email from pldtdsl.net on the mail app on both the macbook and iphone 3g? I have tried all the suggested smtps i found here such as smtp.pldtdsl.net and smtpdsl.pldtdsl.net but i still encounter the same error. It says smtp does not respond.
I have set up the same info on an n96 and it worked. I currently use smartbro at home. The pldtd email is an account created for me by my partner. He has pldt dsl.
I tried connecting using different internet connection, infocom, smartbro, globes 3g and globequest wifi at starbucks.Nothing worked.
TIA.

try smtp.smartwifi.com.ph on your smtp setting instead.
