hey man! can u please help me with my iTunes. First, this is what i do:

- i copy music files from original CDs to my HDD by clicking 'Add to Library' in iTunes. i choose as mp3 file, and store them as is. i have no problems copying them.

- i look for them at a folder 'Unknown Artist'. but the extension file is m4a. is this the same as mp3?

- i try to arrange my music files into folders, as the singer/band. so ok na. pero once i choose the music file, double-click them to play sa iTunes, the files chosen are gone, they go back to the 'Unknown Artist.' Y is this? Sayang naman yung pinaghirapan kong i-arrange na almost 10 G of Music files. huhuhu

- sory guys, im a new switcher from PC to Mac. I'm kindda illiterate pa going my way in and out of a Mac computer.

TIA

.m4a means they're AAC files. To be sure that you're ripping your CDs to MP3s, go to Preferences -> Importing. Import Using: "MP3 encoder". You can also adjust the settings there (bitrate, etc. etc.)

Go to Preferences -> Advanced and make sure that "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" is unchecked. You can also set the iTunes Music folder location in that section.

Tip: best to enter the track info first before ripping the CDs (highlight the track and press Command-I). You can do this manually or you can use Gracenote's CDDB (highlight the audio CD in the left column then go to Advance -> Get CD Track Names). You need to be online to accomplish this. When the track infos' available, iTunes will automatically arrange the ripped MP3 files for you (folder hierarchy is Artist Name -> Albums -> Tracks) inside your iTunes music folder. ;-)

If you're going to edit song details, I suggest doing it in iTunes. Don't do it manually by fiddling with the folders, iTunes will do that for you automatically by default.

I agree. Manual route only for downloaded MP3/AAC files with incorrect, etc. file names. ;-)
