Can we ban this guy yet? He's clearly a spammer (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=%22I+was+able+to+convert+dvd/video+to+iPhone+using+the+Cucusoft+iPhone+Video+Co nverter+suite+software%22&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8).

I tried installing the the "Handbrake" installer program.

"Handbrake-win-2.41.EXE"

Once clicked.. an error pops up ... ".NET runtime library not installed"
What seems to be the problem?
I'm running on Windows XP and I downloaded the "Windows GUI" version

Oh I see... thanks for the quick reply.

Downloading .NET Frameworks 2.0 now.

..will let you know if this fixes the problem.

Thanks again.

@JMV,

since you mentioned you're on Windows XP, you may want to try this.

http://www.hackthatphone.com/112/iphone_rip_dvd_windows.html

this might be simpler but it's a two program process.

i hope this helps.

I'm currently converting a DVD into MP4 format using handbrake. As the the status of progress, I would estimate the whole DVD (Spiderman 1) would be converted in 5 hours. Is this normal? Heck, this is too long!

that is quite long. you may want to try the link i sent earlier, it might be shorter.

i used the programs found in that site and i now have 10 GB worth of movies in my itunes. too bad the iphone only has 8GB. hehe.

so handbrake solves my DVD conversion issue but what do you guys use for converting your downloaded media files (i.e. other video file formats) to iphone ready clips?

...as a side note...isn't it funny that most (if not all) original DVDs are copyright protected, thus we are forced into using pirated DVDs to be able to convert them into viable video formats for our iphones/ipods? :)

I use Elgato's Turbo H.264. Its a combo hardware/software solution so it converts videos to iPhone format really really fast. :)

i use visual hub to convert videos for my ipod touch. but if you want freeware, you might want to try squint.

For full feature movies i.e. one movie in one dvd, I have no problems using handbrake but if I want to convert tv series where one dvd has multiple shows, I can't seem to do that on handbrake. Any suggestions? Tried iSquint also and it doesn't work either.

@alhuang1
I use Handbrake for transferring TV series to my iPod. What I do is I choose a chapter first before I start converting. Then I go to the next til I'm finished with all the episodes.

conversion. what i do after i am done converting DVD videos via Visual Hub into a let's say a 1080i HD video uncompressed format, i open it with Quicktime Pro, and export it for iPod and iPhone 3G, and i choose H264 compression with a file extension of .m4v which i use and up load the final m4v video to youtube or iPhone. it's so clear compared to a 320x480 something format.

Total Video Converter does it for me when encoding subs into a video. It also has custom presets for iPhone so you don't have to fiddle much with the settings.

I use SUPER too. It's the fastest free converter out there: 6mins to convert a 180mb AVI file to mp4.

Okay isquint is gone. So are Visual Hub and Handbrake isnt working w/Snowy. Ive been looking all over for a good ala isquint super simple video converter.

Xillisoft Video Converter somehow isnt working w SL - whenever i convert avi to mp4 (any for that matter actually), i get a fail result.

Tried Super but apparently its just for Windows.

Handbrake released a new version recently with proper support for SL and some optimizations. They took out avi/ffmpeg features tho.
