trigo 11-30-2007, 10:00 AM have you installed it already?
CruciaL 11-30-2007, 10:22 AM I'm transfering some files pa, maybe in 30mins I'll post some photos after I'm done :)
Btw.
If your iPod's firmware version is 1.2.3 or lower, once you install the classic-hack it will be downgraded to 1.2.1 or 1.2.2 depending on what classic-hack version you have downloaded.
I have updated my firmware to 1.2.3 earlier (game hacks doesn't work with 1.2.2 and higher) and now it's 1.2.1 after installing this classic-hack. The games are working perfectly now :P
trigo 11-30-2007, 10:35 AM i downloaded some files from driven design.net supposedly firmware but got only 400kb+ and the files inside are images and resources... i have ipodwizard which i installed on my ipod 5g to have games... the firware for 5g is like 13mb, right?
you suggest that i upgrade my firmware to 1.2.3 first before the hack?

I think you have downloaded a theme, the classic-mod is 5mb+ for the 1.2.2 and 6mb+ for the 1.2.1
And no, don't upgrade to 1.2.3
Go to driven-design.net
Then click "Classic Project".
Download links are there.
trigo 11-30-2007, 11:29 AM got it. i'll wait for your update result... we can update firmware without losing data, right? the last time i updated my firmware using ipodwizard, i did not lose any... will apple games still play?
CruciaL 11-30-2007, 11:37 AM Yeah, but it's not 100% safe though. :)
brb
Cool! Waiting for your update. ;)

Sorry for the crappy shots and late reply.
It was really easy.
1. Download all the files needed.
-iPodWizard v1.3
-Classic Hack Update 2.1 - 5.5G or 2.2
2. Plug-In the iPod
3. Open iPodWizard
4. On the top left, Edit Mode: Choose: Firmware File.
Then Click Open Firmware and locate the Classic Hack Update 2.1 - 5.5G (it's inside the folder named Classic Hack Update 2.1.
5. After opening the firmware file, click WRITE TO iPOD.
6. Click Eject
7. Unplug and Enjoy.
If the songs/videos on your iPod are gone, don't worry, just reset your iPod. (Hold Menu+center button), and there you go, the songs/videos/etc are back.
That's what I did.
For themes of the Classic Mod 5.5G or the Default 5/5.5G Layout, check here :

trigo 12-01-2007, 09:30 AM ok will try this hack this pm...
CruciaL 12-01-2007, 11:13 AM Oh btw, as you can see, it's not really 100% Classic UI.
Since on the right side, the Album Art is not big like this one:
http://images.apple.com/ipodclassic/gallery/images/10_large20070905.jpg
Well the first versions of the hack is similar to this, but most users doesn't realy like the huge album art and most of the songs doesn't really have an album art in their ipods :P
trigo 12-01-2007, 05:19 PM success... modded my ipod already...
booblanco 12-01-2007, 05:50 PM was the responsiveness of menu clicks and popups slowed down in any way by this hack? i've tested an iPod Classic recently and i noticed that my 5G seems faster when moving up/down screens.
Cool hack. Will try it out soon. Just wondering, if I don't like it, how do I put it back to the original UI? Thanks. :)
trigo 12-01-2007, 09:32 PM you need the original firmware... hmmm, anybody know where to get the original firmware? 5g...
CruciaL 12-02-2007, 03:22 AM I only have one 5.5G Firmware which is a game-hack firmware. No classic-mod.
And I think if you just update your iPod through iTunes it will revert it to the original UI.
rdy0329 12-02-2007, 02:22 PM you can revert back to the old firmware, or let's say the 1.2.3 firmware by just hitting update on your iTunes menu, don't worry, itunes still recognizes your hacked firmware to be either 1.2.2 or 1.2.1 so no need to worry at all. and if you hit update, the hacked firmware will be erased and your music is still safe, i tried this in beta and loved it, but it's buggy then... when i was caught in a resetting bug (when iPod resets over and over) i just put my iPod to disk mode (Google it) then either hit restore or update (luckily, if you have update enabled kasi back then sasabihin up to date yung iPod ko) so i have to restore it, it's not a waste because all of my music is still in iTunes :D goodluck for all of you.
bacchus_3 12-02-2007, 05:11 PM looks like a great project for my now out-of-warranty 5.5G ipod video. seems like i'm having problems connecting to rapidshare from my end. crucial, I wonder if there is any other mirror sites that hosts these classic UI package?
CruciaL 12-02-2007, 07:08 PM Here's a mirror:

Gonna install it later :)
Mocha.Frap 12-21-2007, 11:41 AM I'm doing the iPod touch hack right now on my iPod Video 5.5g :D Btw, will this hack void your warranty if something went wrong with the iPod?:D
CruciaL 12-21-2007, 12:42 PM ^
If you click the "Restore" in the itunes, it will bring your iPod to factory settings :)
Post pics if you can :P
Mocha.Frap 12-21-2007, 02:29 PM Successfully modded my iPod. :D just a question though..How to put screenies of the iPod without using a cam to picture the iPod? :D
How do I install this hack with my Mac? iPodWizard doesn't have a Mac version. :| Anyone tried alterPod or similar software?
Mocha.Frap 12-21-2007, 07:17 PM I used windows to install iPod Wizard :D Try to use bootcamp or use a Windows operating computer :D
CruciaL 12-22-2007, 01:53 AM Successfully modded my iPod. :D just a question though..How to put screenies of the iPod without using a cam to picture the iPod? :D
I think they are using a "theme-previewer".
I don't think theres a snapshot on an iPod :)
Mocha.Frap 12-22-2007, 10:06 AM ALright thanks. I'll try to post a pic later; I just woke up and I feel kinda lousy :D
Edit 1: Guys! Don't do this hack!! I repeat do do this! When I took my iPod, it became corrupted I put it in my mac, it said that I had to erase every file! =( *sigh* Now I know that I shouldn't have played with this hack.
Edit 2: For some unknown reason, my iPod went back to the iPod touch mod again..:D Phew I thought all of my files were to go missing =(
teenee18 12-22-2007, 02:55 PM Already modded my iPod with this hack. My ipod looks great. :D But it would be great if the icons in the main menu are arranged in columns and rows, then use the click wheel to go through them(if it will ever be possible that is).:p Nevertheless, great hack!:D
rdy0329 12-22-2007, 10:53 PM use alterpod for mac, on the first screen click the firmware restore ata and select the file you want unzip muna ung naka compress na files and then select the bin file and it will restore your iPod to the touch setting :D very great hack xa!
CruciaL 12-26-2007, 06:49 PM ALright thanks. I'll try to post a pic later; I just woke up and I feel kinda lousy :D

lol. On my part naman, After I installed the "Classic Hack", my iPod looked like a new one. All files are gone. Then I restarted it, then poof' all back to normal.
Btw, I don't like the Touch UI Hack, At first there's the black background screen, then you will be directed to a white bg naman, then a black bg naman sa "Now Playing".
Not to mention walang battery meter sa main menu. also the clock/date.
I'm going back to the classic hack w/ my customized background.
Mocha.Frap 12-29-2007, 09:14 AM Guys! Just a question..If I want to restore my iPod theme to the default one (iPod video 5.5gen theme), how to do it?:D
shooter 12-29-2007, 02:31 PM connect your iPod, and in iTunes, just do an update (or restore if needed)
streetritter 07-09-2009, 11:57 AM Just forget about the interface of iPod Classic. Just turn your iPod Video 5.5G into a RockBox. You'll definitely notice great sound improvement and you can choose different themes. Also, the cross-fade is sweet!
