we have the same problem. i had to ask my sister to get me a composite cable from the US. i read from somewhere here that its because all of the new gen ipods have video out via the dock connector only.

You can get a desktop dock with video out.
it was mentioned somewhere here that it will work with that system.

Yep, the new iPods and iPhone can only do video out via the dock connector - the headphone jacks no longer support video out. Apple has 2 new video out cable/connectors; A component one and a composite one:

Link for the composite (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=7E4FA1DC&nplm=MB129LL/A).

Link for the component (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=7E50163B&nplm=MB128LL/A).

You will need to buy the cable.......the dock is optional. The cables will connect to your iPod Classic dock connector (the 30-pin interface at the bottom).

The dock will just let you make your iPod Classic stand up. You then would connect the video cables to the back of the dock (which is also the same 30-pin interface).

apple universal dock + ipod AV cable impressions

I went to buy the iPod universal dock for me to use the TV out option of the classic. I already have an apple AV cable as a gift and i have used it with my prior ipod videos.

1. it produces better pictures on the TV. (i only have the OLD kind of TV) but i notice that the picture quality was better. It does make sense since video output is probably better using the pin connector than the audio jack

2. the sound has lesser volume. I used the AV cable's audio plugs to output the audio in the video and seemingly, the volume is lessened that sometimes you cannot hear the soft whisperings.

remedy: i used the audio jack for the audio output of the video...

note: i use a mini component as my audio out. sound is great

i connect an capdase iPod charger to the dock so my ipod charges while its seated.

i THINK you should see the iPod universal docks on sale soon since they will be packaged together with a remote.

PROS: better video quality, and if you have an intel mac, you can use your remote to navigate thru your ipod.

CONS: Its another added purchase. Sound Quality is still better over the audio jack. This is your only option if you want to watch your videos over to a bigger screen.

PS: the generic AV cables WILL WORK with the the universal dock.

soooo what they're trying to do is force us to buy another one of their extremely over-prices pieces of cord crap, instead of using out $4 av cables that we already had, and are SO MUCH easier to use?

i'm really honestly getting sick and tired of apple lately, and i'm only 18. siiiiiiigh i'm becoming an old wingy woman already :P

Then stay away from all things Apple. You're just 18, and it might do you wonders.

guys, i might as well use this thread for my query

I bought a capdase av component cable for my 80gb ipod classic and connected it to the component input of my tv, the problem is that the output is weird, 1 side of the screen shows the video the other half shows the video also.

is there something wrong with the cable or is the component input of my tv outdated?

I have an AV Component cable its good it does mainly its purpose.

But I do suggest buy also the dock with new apple remote with this thing so that you will not going to stand up to change episodes of whatever your are watching.

Yes buying an apple products are for those have savings and with generous relative, parents and grand parents.

It's costly but sulit naman it will stay with you as long as you will take good care of it.

For students you should help your self to generate income so that you can buy accessories for your beloved apple products.

IMHO :)

Check your TV features, My TV set has the feature of screen PIP which you can see other half with other channel but no sound while watching videos and you could switch it interchangeably if you want to watch the channel then the video will be with another half with no sound but you and still watch both simultaneously.

nop its not the PIP feature. actually it's either the cable is defective or the component tv input of my tv is outdated.

by the way is there a difference between the component input of a tv from a component input of an lcd? because the component input of my tv works well with my dvd player but distorted with the capdase av component cable..

I think that supposed to work its capdase its a branded alternative for apple branded acessories.

Maybe your TV's ports are outdated?

Yes might there is a difference try it with AV component ports of your LCD with your newly bought Capdase AV component cable.

In my TV it was set to AV 4 input at 420p resolution.

I think in LCD TV's AV component ports are the same and always at the back of the LCD monitor.

I assume that your LCD's AV component are update. :)
