i have a Harman Kardon Drive+Play and it works perfectly. also, even if an sms or call comes in, i dont get the GSM static sound coming out of the speakers.

however, if I answer the phone while connected to the Drive+Play, the caller's voice does not get routed through the sound system.

I have a Kenwood stereo receiver in my pickup (with USB) that can recognize the iPod video but when I connect the iPhone it can't recognize it. I still have to check Kenwood's website because they usually issue updates that you can apply to their equipment.

I use the PIE adaptor to get iPod/iPhone audio into my Fortuner's stereo. Luckily, I also have the added bonus of having two cigarette lighter jacks on the front console.

The leftmost one holds an iPod nano gooseneck cradle/charger. Since my iPhone has a Griffin holster with a belt clip that swivels, I can easily attach the iPhone to the gooseneck cradle and secure it there for easy access while I drive. Meanwhile, the other cigarette lighter jack is powering a DLO iPod charger that goes into the iPhone's bottom slot.

I'll try to post a pic sometime, it's easier to see than to read.

Hmm.. are the current FM transmitters any good? Malinaw ba yung reception or may noise siya na hindi ma eliminate because of other radio stations near the frequency being used? Kung ok to, I might look for one myself.. a charger+FM transmitter for iPods. I think gagana naman siya for the iPhone.

I got the one mounted via the cigarette lighter and it's also a FM transmitter as well. But the thing is, it doesn't charge my iPhone. And everytime I connect it, it says something like this accessory is not compatible with the iPhone.

It's able to transmit the music naman so no worries.

12-17-2007, 07:21 PM
Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me.

Yup, I got the mount yesterday, it was delivered to my place a day late (I was actually surprised they delivered on a Sunday), but it wasn't really an issue.

Based on the packaging, it's easy to deduce that this was really more of an iPhone-adapted iPod mount, rather than an iPhone-designed device. But it functioned perfectly based on what it was intended to do: transmit via FM and charge the device at the same time. Just like your regular transmitter, you can choose from 4 pre-tuned frequencies: 88.1, 88.3, 88.5 and 88.7. The sound quality was actually clearer than what I was using previously, no glaring hisses or GSM interference. You mount the, er, mount via your car's cigarette plug, and just set the cradle to your preferred angle. You also get a mini-remote that controls forward, back and skip functions, though I haven't tried it yet (too lazy to buy batteries). A caveat though: you get the message "this device is not designed for your iPhone" everytime you plug it, but it doesn't seem to affect the functions of your iPhone.

Total damage:
iPhone mount + delivery= Php980+80.
In-car listening pleasure= priceless :p

Up until last week, this was my setup:

Interface/charger: Alpine KCA-420i iPod interface
Head unit: Alpine CDA-9827 CD/MP3/WMA receiver
Front speakers: Kicker EX60.2
Fear speakers: they came with the car
Car: '99 Honda Civic LXi (all stock)
Installation: Mickey's Autosound and Elbert Cuenca (for the KCA-420i)

It's a complete 3rd party in-car solution which I reported here (http://www.philmug.ph/forum/showthread.php?p=28732) and here (http://elbert.livejournal.com/1984.html) a few years ago.

Obviously, I've updated the setup with my iPhone, and I no longer use the holster (because it attracts too much attention).

The iPhone works well with the Alpine KCA Interface. It works just like any iPod would --I can control the iPod functions of the iPhone as well as read all the track info from the head unit. I just place the iPhone on top of a non-slip mat in the dashboard.

I also have a Sony Ericsson HCB-30 Bluetooth Car Kit. This makes my iPhone-in-car setup really sweet. First and foremost, the two work perfectly well together. Unlike other bluetooth phones I've had in the past, the iPhone reliably maintains BT connection and is rweally easy to reattach should I walk out of range and then back in while the unit is on. The small LED on the HCB controller also properly displays my phone's network coverage status (green for positive GSM signal, red for out of coverage).

The Alpine-Sony Ericsson combination is wonderful, and ultra convenient for someone like me, who drives a lot. When making or receiving calls, the Alpine pauses the music (or mutes the radio), to allow me to engage in a clear hands-free conversation, then resumes the music when I hang up. The iPhone's great interface helps a great deal as it lets me chose whether to answer or make calls using the BT system or in the iPhone itself.

I've since updated my car, and I'm about to replicate the entire solution in my new Swift. I've ordered the Clarion iPod interface from the US since I wish to retain the original built-in stereo look of the car (and not lose the steering wheel functions too). Once that arrives, I'll be installing a new Sony Ericsson HCB unit. I'm now researching to see if the Clarion has an interrupt cable (like all proper head units these days do), so that my music can be automatically paused when making or receiving calls.

I'll also be replacing the car's original speakers.

Will update this thread once my project is complete.

I got home pretty late last night, and I was pooped, but that mood quickly changed when I found out that I had a FedEx package waiting for me at the building's reception. It was my new Clarion CeNET iPod Interface EA1251.

Even if it was already past 1AM, I went to work on it quickly. It really is just plug and play anyway, but then again, gaining access to the back of the unit is a bit of a challenge, especially since I didn't want to dismantle anything. Fortunately, I was able to gain access through the glove box. It was a bit tight, but I managed.

To be honest, I wasn't 100% certain this would work. I just read in one Suzuki Swift forum based in Australia that it's what I needed. Clarion actually had two models: one for older units and one for newer ones. I don't even know which one I got. What convinced me that this was the right part for our Swift was the square DIN socket I saw at the back of the unit when I took a peek (I stuck my head in and used a flashlight). The CeNET adapter uses a square connector too.

So, with baited breath, I attempted to plug the CeNET cable in. At first try, it went in and snapped into place! But that still didn't assure me it was going to work. I then plugged the other end of that cable to the interface unit, along with the supplied iPod cable. I didn't have my iPod with me, so I tested with my iPhone. The stereo's display started flashing "system check", and it wouldn't stop. I was starting to think it wasn't going to work, but eventually (after some fiddling around), it started playing music! Woohoo!

And so it works, and works well, but it's archaic compared to today's iPod-in-car solutions (Alpine's fantastic iDA-X001 (http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=iDA-X001) was my real target). This Clarion solution lets me browse up to 5 playlists only provided I name them "Clarion 1", "Clarion 2", and so on (just like Alpine's first implementation for BMW a few years back). It also shows a one-liner dot matrix display, which can toggle through artist, album and track information. Indeed, very limited and, as mentioned earlier, archaic. However, these limitations I'm willing to accept since I normally just play the iPod in shuffle mode (I don't normally browse for songs when driving anyway).

I was seriously considering a full replacement of the Swift's facia so I could install a 3rd party HU of my choice (that Alpine iDA-X001 is just so tempting), but that would mean losing the steering wheel controls (volume, pause, next and previous track, etc.) and the speed-sensing auto-volume control. I decided I'd much rather have those features intact.

Now, driving this new car is even more enjoyable. My next steps are to replace the built-in speakers and install my Bluetooth car kit.

I have an alpine set up with the new direct connect system for the ipod. Connected my iPhone Yesterday and basic functions like forward and reverse but when I try to toggle thru playlists an error occurs. Will stick to my iPod when connecting to the car.

kiks, in my old Alpine setup, using the KC- 420i Interface, I had full functionality with the iPhone. Of course, it was a pain to browse through playlists and titles, but it worked just like any iPod would. The best part was that I would not get any of that GSM radio interference when calls of texts would come in or out. I wonder why it wouldn't work with yours. What model Alpine HU are you using?

im thinking of getting this instead of the dension since its a lot cheaper. hows the installtion? ok ba? im scared that they might scratch the console of our mazda 6 e. 5k includes installation na right?

I do recommend the audiolink interface because it gives you cd quality - digital sound from your iPod/iPhone. You can control it from your head unit and it charges your iPod/iPhone. Yes, the P5000 includes installation & it took them only 15 mins.

If you require cd quality 'digital' sound from your iPod/iPhone, I do recommend the audiolink interface. Otherwise, you may chose from the many 'analog' devices available. Very simple to use & you can control it from your head unit and it charges your iPod/iPhone. Yes, the P5000 includes installation & it took them only 15 mins.

Okay so i bought the IPhone FM trasmitter from eBay, same source as silverfox. From my observations, the thing does its job, although the error about it not being compatible does come up, it only means you can't use it as a speaker function.

The sound quality is very good, but not excellent. So take not of that. It charges the iPhone well, but I noticed that my phone heats up quite a bit. I just hope nothing bad will come to it after extended periods of it on the charger. So that's that.

I'm actually not using my iPhone with it right now, just my iPod. I was reading through one of the threads about how a Mugger's Bose dock "killed" his iPhone, and this just got me paranoid. So I'm waiting for an actual Apple-certified car kit.

The iPhone will naturally get hot if the display is on while it's being charged, more so if a making a phone call. You can place it in sleep mode to keep it from getting too hot.

My Swift's stereo is built-in too, but it's actually made by Clarion. If your current stereo has a CD changer, or is CD changer compatible, chances are you can install a 3rd party line-in solution. P.I.E. is practically a sure bet.

Check out their site to see if your Chevy's stereo is listed.

Good day everyone!

Don't know if this is new, but has anyone tried connecting their iPhone to the car head unit (HU) via the iConnect2 cable? I have an Alpine HU AiNet and got the iConnect2 cable for "all iPod models" for it. It uses the CD changer slot behind the HU. It's supposed to enable you to control the iPod (hopefully also the iPhone) and charges it as well.
I'm just a little concerned with the power input that goes into the CD changer slot together with the cable itself (yellow arrow). The car, of course, has 12V and the power doesn't seem to be passing through anything that will lower the voltage.

Anyone tried this yet?

Thanks in advance!

I may have jumped the gun on this one, but I have stopped using the car kit a week after buying it, not because it trashed my iPhone, but because of horror stories I read about non-Apple chargers frying the unit. So for those of you who bought it, I guess caveat emptor applies? My apologies.

So I'm still on the lookout for a solution that will integrate perfectly with my car sound system.

it's the apple composite av cable with the 30-pin dock connector (not the narrow 3.5mm plug which would not send out video signals), 3 rca's (1 for video, 2 for audio) and a usb for charging. sells for $49 at apple stores. had my cousin buy it for me from the states.

I dnt know if anyone posted this yet but here it goes anyway:

The New Land Rover LRX is integrated with the Iphone check it out:

Land Rover LRX's iPhone personalizes your car settings,.
At the nexus of MacWorld and the Detroit Auto Show is this, the iPhone dock for the Land Rover LRX (http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/14/iphone-integral-part-of-land-rover-lrx-concept/) concept car. Our brethren at Autoblog had a chance to sit down with Mr. Sandy Boyes, the LRX's interior designer, to get a better understanding of the iPhone's role in the vehicle. When docked, the iPhone would upload your music, seat settings, steering wheel settings, and all the information for the car's "transfigurable displays." Better yet, he suggests that the dock (iPhone or otherwise) could be offered as a "premium pack" in near-term cars -- there's no need to wait.

I also use a cdrking fm transmitter. You cannot avoid the static because the iPhone is also trasmitting radio signals. If I'm not expecting any call/text, I just switch my iPhone to airplane mode. Otherwise, you have to get used to the static. . . or change your car stereo to a model that has an AUX IN plug. ;) HTH.

http://www.radioshack.com/sm-accurian-universal-dock-with-remote-control-for-ipod--pi-2207484.html

i bought this from the states a few years ago.

Headunit: pioneer DEH 5850 (important for me yung HU na may aux out e)
i also bought an adaptor, to be connected to the aux out slot of the HU, tapos female
RCA na yun.

Dock: the dock has audio and video out. i cconnected the audio cables from the dock to the
adaptor that is plugged into the HU. the dock is also capable of playing videos, so
i bought an LCD monitor for that.
since squarish yung shape nung dock, nag"chop chop" ako ng gooseneck ng discman.
(eto medyo hard to find nowadays) and then i custom made a platform type of wood
then i installed it sa gooseneck.
kelangan nga lang bumili ng power adaptor, na ikakabit sa dock. to be plugged into
the lighter socket.

Matrabaho? yes. pero its worth it. :)

Oh, i think there is a cheaper version of the dock in market market. just have to
confirm kung saang store meron.

1 "Clarion EA1251B Connect and control an iPod with your Clarion CeNET receiver"

The $99 is pretty good considering Clarion has it listed in their own site for $149.99. The Alpine KCA420i is priced at $99 as well.

I had it shipped to a relative in the US and he FedExed it to me. He gifted me with the shipping cost to MNL.

I also use a cdrking fm transmitter. You cannot avoid the static because the iPhone is also trasmitting radio signals. If I'm not expecting any call/text, I just switch my iPhone to airplane mode. Otherwise, you have to get used to the static. . . or change your car stereo to a model that has an AUX IN plug. ;) HTH.

I was able to solve this problem (accidentally) by using an extended cord, so that the actual transmitter and iPhone are far apart from each other (as well as the stereo plugs). I never get the "takatak" sound anymore. I don't know the science behind the solution, but it just works.

I'm now using Griffin - Auto Pilot - check it out..works well with the iPhone Was surprised it plays sound via the dock connection. I've tried several brands but this is the only one that works.

You'll get a not compatible with Iphone but charging and audio out works perfectly. I just ignore the message. This works with cars that have built in mini mic audio in.
