Has anyone been able to try any of the commercial ipod specific interfaces for a curent model Honda Civic with stock stereo?

I have a 1.8V so it doesnt have an aux port, I have also already opened the console to check for the aux harness that is already installed in US Civic LX models without aux port. Sadly the harness is not there in the local assembled civic. Since sourcing the needed h-bus harness and aux port harness would probably cost as much as a commerical interface i may as well order one and get ipod charging and possible direct control from the radio.

The question is; are these interfaces compatible with local cars? Here are a couple:

swap out your stock headunit and put in one with a USB-port that works with USB-based iPods and other USB media playters

This will work if the head unit that comes with the v is compatible with an outboard cd changer. If it isn't, your best bet is as tweek said swap out the head unit with something with at least an aux in.

Its the same model as the one in the 'S' which has an aux in. One of the buttons is marked CD/AUX. I guess its safe to try then. thanks!

Hi Empty,

Im with Honda Cars. Honda Cars Philippines will be distributing a factory approved ipod interface for civic soon and since its factory approved, this will not tamper your warranty.

But if your a risk taker there are third party interface available in the market. If your in Cebu, visit CFG Ayala Center.

Best regards.

I gave up on this for a while but got interested again after having a sub installed. I thought prices would have gone down but the Honda auxillary kit is still expensive, 5k just for basic aux in and 11,500 for an ipod interface.

I did some searching and appartently a simple DIY solution was found a few months after I started this post. Some folks on 8thcivic.com posted the pinout of non-us civic radios as well as a suggestion to use cd-rom audio cables to make your own connector.

I followed the instructions and now hav the AUX function working on my radio. :)

The original post is here:

I used a CD-rom cable which had retaining clips so I just shaved them off with a cutter so that they would fit. The other end of the cable is soldered onto a female 3.5mm stereo jack which is tied off to a metal brace under the dash. I installed another female 3.5mm receptacle in the covered storage pocket under the cigarette lighter plug and put a male stereo plug on the other side. The male plug goes into the female plug under the dash. I made the cable in two lengths so that you can remove the entire center console easily. you could easily just leave it in one piece and just have the female jack dangling on the end of a wire instead of installing a permanent mount.

If you wired it properly pressing the CD/AUX button on the dash will switch between CD playback and Auxillary input just like the S hand 2.0 models.

I want my iPod Touch to be my primary music player in my car. Initially I wanted an Alpine X100 head unit. Now I want to connect the ipod to my amp. But I realized that if I use the lineout then I won't have volume control. I was told there are lineout docks that still allow volume control via the iPod. I am not sure about that.

I brought my Civic FD to Mickey Autosound in Marikina (Well, it's technically Pasig). He has a box that they installed to my head unit so that it would translate my iPod as a CD changer.

I forgot what it's called but it's cool because I can control my iPod using the same knobs as my head unit. On the downside, you can only skip forward or back. The names of the songs aren't displayed and if you want to change your playlist, you have to do this physically.

If you're interested, you can contact them at (02)6472298 or 09275299309.

Good luck!

I was interested with Mickey's Alpine IDA-X100 iPod Controller. But it's sold out.

I use Monster Cable i-Charger with lineout. Works well but control is only through the iPod.

This connects to the docking port? You still get to control volume this way? I thought one doesn't get volume control when using the lineout port.

Isn't the Alpine IDA-X100 a headunit? Try sound and security in banawe, got mine there. Might be even cheaper compared to mickey's.

Yes, the IDA X-100 is a head unit without built-in media players. It uses a usb source like the iPod. It also has built-in iPod controls. It draws digital signals from the iPod making it function no more than a hard disk. I was thinking about using this so I can fabricate a a slot where I insert my iPod Touch like a media card.
