You knew it was only a matter of time before someone started this thread. Does anyone have a case you can recommend? I tried the InCase leather sleeve but didn't like the fit. As much as I like touching the iPhone naked (not me, the iPhone), I'm sure there'll come a time when I wish I found one sooner. Let me know if you like what you're using. Yeah, all 5 of you.

You might want to try this website (http://everythingiphone.com) and try ordering from them. Not sure if they ship it outside US though. Plus, I dont think its a practical move to have an item amounting only about $20 shipped to the Philippines

One thing to consider before buying cases is the sensor located right above the earpiece. If this sensor is blocked, the screen will not know to turn off when it’s being held up in proximity to your face. :)

jsaure
09-10-2007, 02:43 AM
If you want a case that's supposed to allow use of the iPhone while it's in the case, you'd also have to consider the headset jack, camera lens, dock connector, volume controls, and speakers aside from the proximity sensor. This should dwindle down your choice. There are a lot of cases that tend to obstruct one or the other. That's why I ended up with a simple case that's only meant to protect the iPhone when I'm carrying it, as opposed to when I'm using it. As with any gadget, be it cameras, portable gaming systems, or iPods, it's always better using it naked.

really depends on your taste. you probably like modding your phone's externals. but for me, nothing beats an unadulterated iPhone. if i ever consider modding my iPhone, it'll just be the minor internals (icons, battery and wifi signals, dock, wallpaper). it's already a great-looking device, no compelling need to make it look better. IMHO.

pinoymacuser
09-12-2007, 09:54 AM
i agree with you

I love the look of a naked iPhone

the only mask I would consider is a clear one that protects my phone from scratches

I hope they have something like that

pinoymacuser, this one I posted earlier consists of 2 pieces, one for the front of the iPhone and another piece that wraps around the entire back. It comes with some liquid spray that you apply on both the plastic and your hands (so it won't stick). Tough to install, but well worth the effort:

I'm not a big fan of silicone cases for phones since they tend to gather dust while in a pocket but the best case I had for an iPod was an iskin. Perhaps I'll give the iSkin Revo a try. Reviews seem positive:

I just received my invisibleshield full body protection for my iPhone. Installation was a bit of a pain at first but then it got a bit easier. The instructions said to leave the phone alone for 24hrs (yeah, right :p ) to let the product adhere properly but I was able to use it after a couple of hours.
I would say that the installation was around 90% perfect as I can still see some bubbles and a few lint strands here and there. But thats with looking with a strong flashlight.

When you turn the phone on, you can hardly notice the any difference in the display quality. Everything is still sharp and colorful. All in all you can still appreciate the simple beauty of the iPhone while still having it protected.

i'm very happy with the macally msleeve iphone case that came in the mail today, along with a screen protector i ordered separately.

http://image1.cc-inc.com/prod/7275000/7275975_lg/MacAlly%20Peripherals-mSleeve%20Genuine%20Leather%20Protective%20Case%20 for%20iPhone-Cellular%20Telephony.jpg

it's made of very thin but suede-lined leather, and provides easy access to the phone. great protection while looking very stylish. and cheap, too (i got mine for $15 plus $5 shipping in the US. see here for a review:

i've yet to get my iphone, but i've already ordered the macally iphone leather sleeve from newegg ($15 plus $5 shipping in the US). i prefer to use my phones and computers "naked", without any kind of silicon or covering, so this will just be for protection in the pocket and bag.

@DON2003 we have the exact same setup! I'm using the silicon case + screen protector I bought from you together with my 3rd gen iPod holster. :)

Naked in the holster, the iPhone is still in danger of damage to the top as it sticks out about 1/2cm. It also may slip out as its a bit loose. But with the silicon case it fits snugly.

ok, that's good. use the waiting time to read up on what you should and shouldn't do--like DON'T UPGRADE to 1.1.1 if your iphone happens to have 1.0.2 firmware, if you want to unlock and use it right away.

before you ask new questions, go over the long iphone threads here. good luck!

I saw the iSkin Revo at Powermac and was a bit disappointed. In the photos it looked really good with the textured surface and the bright contrasty colors. In person it looked rather ordinary, the colored accents were a bit pale. I used my office address for the delivery. I guess since it's a parcel and I had to pay the post office 35 pesos, all I got was the delivery notice. That's what you get if you opt for free shipping.

I think they can ship right to your doorstep but the shipping charges would be more than the cost of the shield:)

I am ordering a Vaja case for my iphone. I've always wanted to order a vaja for my ipod, but the price for an ipod case seemed too steep. Now that Im getting my iphone, I'll definitely spend a bit more for this one. The workmanship looks fantastic. It looks so classy and chic. I also love how you can customize the vaja with your name or initials as well as choose the color combinations...quite like a Goyard! I can't wait to get mine. I am one happy camper :)

Invisible Shield ships to the Philippines. It's quite pricey though (US$ 24.95). Mine just arrived at the San Juan Post office yesterday. I picked it up today. There's a PhP35 charge. For reference, I ordered it September 21 (free shipping option).

Thanks DarkCast. I might order one of these days. Heard good things about it and i really like the 'naked' iPhone look. :)

well one thing you can say about the iskin revo is that they're damn tough and durable...my iphone slipped unexpectedly from its roost on my desk and pow! hit the floor with a slight thud...didn't worry about it a bit, the frigging case just absorbed the impact...

what's also good about the iskin is its reflective glare and privacy film...hehe no more prying eyes while i send text or use the functions...

but damn, it is expensive!

Can you take close up pics of the Gmasked iPhone. I was wondering about the coverage area, particularly the corners. I was about to go the same route when I discovered Invisible Shield instead and opted for the latter.

One thing about the Invisible Shield...

I installed the full body Invisible Shield on my iPhone around September. It was a bit difficult at first aligning and getting that sucker on but after a few days, you could hardly tell it was there.

But, after around a month, I could notice lint and some other dirt accumulating around the edges of the Invisible Skin. I could ignore it for a while and just used my finger to wipe away the lint. But since I use my iPhone everyday and most of the time it goes in my pocket, you cannot avoid lint and dirt from your hands accumulating on the edges.

So a few days ago I said what-the-heck and removed the Invisible Shield and I have been going "naked" ever since. YMMV.
