View Full Version : PLDT myDSL: User Reports (Updated)
Henjie 07-01-2004, 06:21 PM It's July 1 and myDSL users are now supposed to be getting double (http://www.pldtdsl.com/about/6-23-04.htm) their previous bandwidth: 512Kbps for myDSL Personal and 786Kbps for myDSL Pro, up from 256Kbps and 384Kbps respectively.
For the benefit of those thinking of switching to myDSL, may I request myDSL users to post their current bandwidth statistics here. :-)
I'll start:
*Package: myDSL Pro
*Bandwidth Test Results: 755Kbps/94.375KBps (2Wire); 710Kbps/88.75 (DSLReports)
*Time of Test: 6:20PM, July 1
*Service Area: Binondo - Soler Street
Bandwidth tests available from DSLReports.com (http://www.dslreports.com/stest), 2Wire.com (http://www.2wire.com/?p=154), McAfee (http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer.asp), and Bandwidth Place (http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/).
Thanks!

2Wire's servers are inconsistent at times. If the McAfee/Bandwidth Place/etc. test results are okay, just ignore the 2Wire results. ;-)

OT: out of boredom and curiosity, i tried using our mydsl pro connection's user/pass here in my mom's place and it worked. the connection was also registering at mydsl pro's speed. does pldt's dsl server allow multiple connections?

Dinkydoo 07-01-2004, 10:33 PM Henjie,
Among the sites you have provided for testing, which one gives the most accurate reading? My tests show very different results. Using safari vs. IE also yield different readings.
If we average the readings, does that give the most accurate representation of the the bandwith speed?

Honestly, I'm not sure which one's the most accurate 'coz too many factors are involved (test server load, etc. etc.. :-) I don't think averaging the results is also a good way of getting your true speed as just one inaccurate result will be enough to throw the measurement out of whack.
If in doubt, I just test my connection by downloading something from a reasonably fast server such as those of Apple (http://www.apple.com/support/) and Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx). The MIT server hosting a copy of the TechTool Pro 4.0.2 updater (http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/HyperArchive/Archive/disk/tech-tool-pro-updater-402.hqx) is also fast. Any of the three is good for real-world bandwidth testing. ;-)

katsch 07-02-2004, 05:24 PM the microsoft outlook express software that pldtdsl uses forgot to include a 'select all' feature.
yup, you have to individually check each message to get rid of them. that definitely was a feature present before the migration to 'pldtdsl.net' from 'info.com.'
unless i could not find it.
here is my speed by the way:

Hi Adel! Looks like the 1Mbps days are done. Well at least na experience mo even for a short while. I hope we occasionally experience the increase once in a while too. Right now it seems that everyone is having the same speed. I guess its ok as long as its consistent. :)

was sooooo itching to post this yesterday morning, bad timing though --- right around the time philmug was inaccessible. just decided to do a random speed check, and my jaw almost dropped when i saw this speedometer on McAffee (pic attached).
Clicked refresh, and the needle went wild and wacko on me: PAST 2000 KBPS!!!!!! T-2 network rating!*@?! That speedometer needle really looked weird, but before i got the chance to do a screen capture, the page refreshed itself. Then a little later, the needle indicated a lousy 90 (ISDN speed range) but it only took a few minutes to return to the 1Mbps range.
Whoooooaaaaaaa!
Henjie 07-09-2004, 11:34 AM Whoa! I'm getting Mbps speeds, too. Time of test: 11:30AM July 9.
McAfee: 2.051Mbps / 262.58KBps
DSLReports: 1134Kbps / 141.7KBps
BandwidthPlace: 1.2Mbps / 144.2KBps
Real-world throughput is even better than some of the bandwidth test results. 257.6KBps sustained while downloading a couple of large files. :-) I wonder how long this will last?

Henjie 04-15-2005, 05:50 PM My myDSL Pro (768Kbps/96KBps) connection has been breaking the megabit barrier for a few days now. Anybody else experiencing the same thing?
2Wire (http://www.2wire.com): 1323.8Kbps or 1.29Mbps or 165.48KBps
DSLReports (http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=97): 1242Kbps or 1.21Mbps or 155.2KBps
McAfee (http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp): 1209.34Kbps or 1.181Mbps or 151.17KBps
This has been going on for about three days now. Nice. :-)

~Henjie
tweek 04-15-2005, 06:06 PM Yeah using myDSL Pro in Alabang. I got my peak using the latest MenuMeter. For the past hour my peak is 184.3KB/sec
For the speed am getting I should be paying 14-80 grand.
tweek 04-15-2005, 06:17 PM I'm currently doing a software update and getting 222.1KB/sec. A neighbor of mine on myDSL Personal is still slugging at 55-60KB/sec. What a world of difference 500/month makes.
quicksilver 04-15-2005, 07:27 PM i've got mydsl personal, and i'm trudging along at 150 ~ 170 Kbps. :frown:
mr.benny_mac 04-15-2005, 07:40 PM mydsl pro, 186.5 KB/sec here! wow! :hyper:
alhuang1 04-15-2005, 09:48 PM i just checked mine using dsl reports got 1052/355. my best so far. am subscribing to 768
pelican 04-16-2005, 12:06 AM mine too. i thought pldt upgraded it to t1.
Sph1nx 04-16-2005, 12:17 PM Are you all using the modem provided by PLDT? I've dumped that and changed to a Speedtouch 802.11g wireless router. With this, i'm getting slower speed readings, but wireless access on my iBook is pretty much the same as the wired access on the PC connected to the router.
tweek 04-16-2005, 03:56 PM In my case the first gen Nokia ADSL modem + a Linksys WRT54G WiFi router using Alchemy-6.0-RC1.w42 V2.04.4.8sv firmware. While updating to 10.3.9 I got a peak of 228KB/sec.
alhuang1 04-16-2005, 10:18 PM Hi tweek, I have the same config, equipment wise as you but used the linksys firmware upgrade to 2.04 if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, I was wondering if you have problems with the connection cutting often. I still have that problem even if the speed has improved considerably. Did you ever have that problem. The pldt guys came over and claimed that my phone line connection was not well done by my electrician but i doubt it. anyway, wanted to know if you've had disconnect problems because i'm trying to ascertain if the problem is with my firmware upgrade or with the line or something else. i'd appreciate your feedback. thanks
docnap 04-16-2005, 10:25 PM I've had disconnect problems, ranging from 15 min.- 4 hrs on, and 15 min to 24 hrs off. I had PLDT check it, the guy told me that it is a wiring problem, so I had to use a new connection from the post, direct to my modem, bypassing the whole built-in wiring of the house. It behaved for a day then the problem recurred. They had to change the modem, from the original Zyxel to a Speedstream, and for about a week now, I've had a stable and reliable connection.
docnap
alhuang1 04-16-2005, 11:09 PM docnap, that's interesting feedback. thanks. i never really thought of the modem being the problem. hmm, could very well be my problem as well. does anyone out there have the first gen nokia dsl modem?
tweek 04-16-2005, 11:21 PM hi alhuang1, no problem whatsoever. Got 321KB/sec while downloading multiple torrents.
alhuang1 04-16-2005, 11:26 PM thanks tweek. i better do the line fix before I start complaining to pldt again. but as i'm writing, i've had intermittent service for the past 30 mins now ranging from 30 secs to a few minutes. oh well, guess i really need to fix my line first

If you have ruled out your computer, I suspect it to be a modem problem. Before you rewire test your set-up at the end of the telephone line PLDT installed. If the problem is still there PLDT tech wont have any excuse since everything is still on their side of the fence.
Henjie 04-30-2005, 06:56 PM It's confirmed. Another round of speed upgrade for PLDT myDSL. :-)
Plan 1995: previously 384Kbps, now up to 512Kbps
Plan 2500: previously 512Kbps, now up to 768Kbps
Plan 3000: previously 768Kbps, now up to 1Mbps
The upgrade is being done on a per-area basis.

Good lord!
I just checked my connection on PLDT Play and look what it read!
Oh and the scary part is that i'm on wifi and i'm on the third floor. The Apple Base Station is in the garage on the first floor, there's an APex on the second floor and I'm above them all. Wow. I hope it stays this way!
quicksilver 05-01-2005, 08:15 AM well, this is a pleasant surprise! i've got myDSL personal, and i've got 700.8 Kbps according to 2Wire, and 699.2 kbps according to PLDT play.
Been seeing improvements too (after two days of downtime - they only pacified me by saying they were doing an upgrade, which I took with a grain of salt at first), as the days go by. Yahoo!

Good thing you took your graphic down. I've always thought it was dangerous to announce your IP address to the general public.

Well, it is a dynamic IP address from myDSL anyway and a simple refresh may assign it to someone else. :P
El CaMOTe 05-01-2005, 10:06 PM Moan, groan, ...:sigh::no: am here stuck with globeDSL, and for the umpteenth time thinking of switching.
Am getting what i subscribed for 350-450 Kbps (that's a small "b") unlike PLDT, I have not been 'doubled' !!:(
Does anybody know what are the good deals now at PLDT ?
My PLDT landline is DSL capable na, so I can switch right away.
