He brought with him his is 15" 1.5GHz PB and his two units of LaCie Big Disk Extreme (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10123). That's a total of 1 terabyte worth of external storage. His stats:
20,909 songs, 57.3 days, 812.54 GB
All his songs are in AIFF format.
All of a sudden, my collection is dwarfed.

Henjie 06-07-2004, 01:35 AM Just trimmed my iTunes library down to 1,887 songs, 5.7 days, 12.13GB from around 19GB a couple of weeks ago. All killer, no filler. ;-)

Maverick 06-07-2004, 01:53 AM looks like I had more than I thought. Plus I haven't included the other mp3's I have on CD's and DVD's as well as other Audio CD's that I just recently received. I probably have a little over 32k now or so.

your bro in law has quite a collection as well, but why does his eat up so much space? I have over 10k more than his, but i have only about 1/8th his size.

First off, he's not my cousin. :) I also mentioned he's using AIFF, check out Gonz' post in What is the best compression format? (http://www.philmug.ph/viewthread.php?tid=1262). You'll see why it's taking up so much space.
EDIT: Each song in his library takes up almost 40MB of space.

Jughead 06-09-2004, 03:54 PM Would you believe, zero? Call me old-fashioned, guys but I prefer to compile and burn my personal iTunes playlists or libraries in CD-R's (of which I have quite a lot now) encoded, of course, in the "lossless" and CD-quality AIFF compression format. I never had a problem playing vinyl LP's and cassette tapes one after another during their respective heydays and I still have no problem playing CD's one at a time now. I guess I just love listening to music that way, that's all. :)
Not to mention that I also don't have a large hard drive capacity right now. Hence, the need to conserve storage space. ;) :P

I use an external firewire drive to store 98% of my library. The iPod is my main music player around the house, in the car and when i'm on the go. I rely heavily on smart playlist and regular playlist to sync music to my ipod. Don't use my pb to listen to music unless i'm at my desk..

According to your itunes you need 114 days to play all your songs. Its almost a year! haha!
I have a suggestion, when you listen to your songs arrange them according to season. For example play love songs on Feb, then reggae songs in summer. Atleast if your going to have a marathon you don't get lost of time because of the music you hear. haha! Goodluck!

phililoo 09-09-2009, 06:48 PM really stupid question here...
so i import my music to itunes from my music folder, right.. and itunes music has its own folder right... so does that mean my music files are actually doubled? i have 2 copies of the same song? which means i am taking up twice as much space? i got around 32gb of music in itunes right now.. so does that mean i'm taking up around 64gb of music in my harddrive?
sorry for the noob-ness :D
rafaelc378 09-09-2009, 07:01 PM @phililoo: I'm assuming you're not using a Mac?
Do you use any other Music Player other than iTunes? If not, why the need for a Music Folder other than iTunes default folder?
In iTunes Advanced Preferences, do you have "Copy music files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library" checked? If so, any song file that you play that isn't in the default iTunes folder will be added there each time you play it, so yes, you may have a bunch of files located in two locations.
