After 2.5 years of daily use. Is this finally the end?

Bummer, but after more than 2 years of daily use (Phew!) , guess it is time to change the hard drive !! 'sounds like par for the hard drive course'

Is that a 5 gig 1st gen ?? If so then you can put in a 15 gig new HD. Checkout Chris Breen's book on the IPod.

Good luck :)

No use worrying when it'll conk out. Everything has a life span. If its really time to kick it, still, 2.5 years is a pretty good run. Just enjoy it while it lasts, and get Apple iPod care!

Carlo, you keep all your music in your iPod don't you? Hope you were able to back it all up. I dedicate this song (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=608177&selectedItemId=608100) to your iPod. ;)

Is this situation covered by Apple Ipod Care? or will this just be charged to normal wear and tear?

Unfortunately, the iPod extended warranty came out months after mine lapsed. I am calling the dealer that sold this to me but after reading through several message boards it seems that this iPod is now an expensive paper weight.

So far, my 1st Gen 10 GB iPod's still alive & cranking out music! It's been w/ me for over two years now. Was among the first to make habilin to a friend to get me a unit after it was first launched in the U.S.

It's been my constant travel companion. It's seen the turn-of-the-Milliennium celebration at the Sydney Harbour bridge, it's been on the Lord of the Rings tour in New Zealand & watched "Return of the King" at the Embassy Theater, among others.

It has an OPM playlist that never fails to "bring me back home" whenever I feel homesick on a business trip, etc.

Will surely miss it if & when it finally conks out on me.
