heard through the grapevine: mac pro to be released on december 16.

i told my son that he probably won't get my mac pro till february, which may be when manila gets its share of units.

but considering its size, i'll likely handcarry one from singapore in january—not because i can't order one in december, but who wants to fly into NAIA during balikbayan season?! aside from the lines, hordes, and traffic, i'm sure customs is in vulture mode. ;)

My first two purchases next year: a Mac Pro and a Herman Miller Aeron chair. :)

A pricey tool and a pricey stool. :D

Hey Roland, if you're serious about the Herman Miller stool tell them you saw their ad in Rogue. :) You should be able to avail of your Philmug discount as well. :)

It would be great to have a date with her come Valentines day... Black-smooth-as-silk-straight-bodied-bomb... The question is, will she let me afford her?

Wow! The top of the line new Mac Pro at P405+k not yet including the cost 4K monitor and external devices. Must be meant for hard core pro users. Since it's a first generation model, probably best to check user feedbacks first and find out real world speed difference. There's a Macworld article saying the speed difference with the BTO 8 core 2013 Mac Pro and the 27" iMac is minimal. Opinion: The new Mac Pro makes the iMac the power user's desktop | Macworld

That's speed difference in terms of CPU, but the main reason why one would buy a Mac Pro would be because of the GPUs (which it has two of). Also, you have to take into account that most apps aren't even optimised for the new Mac Pro because it just came out.

Yep that's correct. If your work is GPU intensive, the new Mac Pro fits the bill. If your work only utilizes one GPU or not GPU intensive, the new Mac Pro may be overkill since you paid for 2 GPUs.

RAM's not even at 64GB yet. Try taking that option. Geabe. It's like buying a used '09 Civic na!

Mmm.....it is a productivity tool (read: money maker) for professionals or businesses. I m not surprised with the top-dollar pricing (normal for workstation-class machines).l It is silly to compare it with a mere laptop or MacBook. You measure its worth with the product you create with this beast in the years to come. If you can make millions with it, the price tag is a drop in the bucket. Besides, you can always book it under capital expenditures (Equipment) in your company's books and get the corresponding deduction benefit (chargeable against depreciation in your company's financial statement, in particular, in the Income or Profit/Loss Statement). In addition, workstations are MUCH more reliable/durable compared with portables. So, what's the problem?

    Just Sharing!

    Our new workstation has arrived!

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17808558/MACPRO/macpro201402.jpg

    Custom Specs at:

2.7 Ghz 12-core Intel Xeon E5 with 30MB L3 cache turbo boost up to 3.5 GHZ
    64GB 1866mhz ddr3 ECC Memory
Dual AMD Firepro D500 with 3GB GDDR5 Vram Each
    512 GIG system drive

It was probably not purchased in the Philippines, was it?

I will probably have to wait for my US trip in April to get mine, though nothing that beastly.

Hand carry lang, without the box. Ano kayang bagay sa Mac Pro na Rimowa? ;)

quick confession: i was one of those scoffing at the mac pro's design that it looks like a ridiculously expensive garbage can.

but then i watched iFixIt's teardown video of the mac pro... DAMN that thing is really well-designed and well-built! i'm really impressed with the triangular heatsink that made it possible to fit that much power in such a small space with only a single fan for cooling.
