Since the update of El Capitan when i type 6/20 (which i format the cell for 6/20/16)
it shows 6/1/20.. how can i fix this issue?
it has to show 6/20/16 instead of 6/1/20

at system preferences, go to date and time preferences
    then open language & region
    then advanced
then go to the dates tab
then you can drag the month to the left of the day.

Instead of going to the "Date" section as you have in your screenshot, go to "Custom" & enter the format that you want for your date (mm/dd/yy). Hope this works for you.

I'm having the same problem. I just adjusted on typing the day-month instead of month-day pattern.
