Happy 10th birthday iPhone!!! The very first generation iPhone (still with me) and my latest iPhone 7 Plus. I still remember the first time when I used the original iPhone, it's simply "practically magic".

good of you to keep yours! if you ever decide to sell it as an artifact, let me know ;) (to be precise, the first iphone was announced on jan. 9, 2007, but not released until junw 29. i think we started getting them end of july from US sources--at a whopping P45K for the top-of-the-line 8GB model.)

here's my pic of the unboxing:

and the first time i ever turned on an iphone:

here's a pic of me and mine from our first philmug iphone meet in 2007:

somewhere in this pic is the genius (i won't tell who) who hacked our iphones to use with local sims:

Mm...Happy Bday iPhone! I got mine a few months after the US release and through the gray market in Greenhills. To make the AT&T unit work, the gray market dealer had to unlock it. Here's the thing. If it gets bricked during the unlocking process, the dealer will not be responsible. I consented, of course. The first time I used it was just magical. Nothing like it.

Our unlocking method (there was no jailbreaking yet) was to clone a SIM card using a blank and then to hack the code so it could be used in an AT&T phone. No hardware stuff. It cost us 5k each from our friendly (and only) neighborhood hacker ;)

I remember when my iPhone and my Blackberry used to ring at the same time with the same number ;)

First time I saw it I knew that it was going to be my next phone.

I still have mine in a drawer. Used it for 6 years. The screen is a little borked but otherwise fine.

Still got mine as well which I got sometime in October 2007. Those were the halcyon days of rooting and unlocking a new and fascinating device which at the time was really "magical."

i recall my 4gb being unlocked at what was soon to be a premier steak place, by the restaurant owner himself ;)

my wife's 4gb was unlocked by another mugger whose name later became synonymous to "pcos" & "traffic" :)

here's mine.. this was taken before I traded it (around 2012).. I was selling it together with the X10 but I end up keeping the X10 while the 2G was traded.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Do you know what I traded the iPhone 2G for? I traded it for this:
    an iPod Classic!

There was no more use for it that time, cant even upgrade the OS and I broke my iPod Video so and I dont really like using my iPhone 4 back then as a music player and wanted a separate one thats why I agreed to trade it for it. Sucks huh? I should've traded the X10 instead and kept the 2G.. it would've been worth triple a few years from now.. I could've traded it for a Macbook Pro haha

I can still remember how I learned for to put it into recovery and DFU modes so I can reinstall the OS.. I even screenshot all the necessary steps and would even spend overnight monitoring threads @applei.ph so that I wont have to pay big bucks just to have it restored..

those where the days when everybody download apps even without the real need for it, just for the purpose of seeing it in your springboard. :D

I still get amazed when the Macworld crowd cheered upon seeing Steve demo Swipe to Unlock and finger-scrolling. The things we have gotten used to.

What are your favorite moments from the 2007 keynote?

Mm..easy.....when Steve Jobs made the world's first phone call on an iPhone. Also, that was the very first thing I did on my iPhone (after being jailbroken). I called my assistant who was standing in front of me. Lol!

It was and still is the best live keynote I watched and also the best "one more thing" in my books.

iPhone is also my first device that had check marks on the following: (1) I owned a version 1.0 of the product; (2) I definitely am a fanboy of the device and the company that produced it and (3) I worked at a job for this device and this company. With my other appliances/devices/tools/services, it's just 1 of 3.

It's amazing that it's only been 10 years.
