Hi guys, will be buying a used macbook soon, just want to ask what are the things to look out for? i'm particularly interested in what i need to check to make sure the unit is not locked up or something like that.

The laptop is quite old but will come with yosemite installed. The seller no longer has the original discs it came with, will that be a problem down the line? i think this is 2009 or 2010 model pa so snow leopard if i'm not mistaken?

Can i just log in on the apple store with my apple id and download el capitan? is it that simple? or there must be something to be reset, etc... and what type of recovery will i have with this one since it doesnt have the original discs it came with? thanks in advance guys for any info you can share :)
