iPhone Yellowish Tint or Unusually Warm Display

I think they will honour replacements for devices with remarkably warm displays. I tried to play the lottery game last year and all replacements bore the same piss yellow tinge so other than disappointment, it also turned out to be an absolute waste of my time. Some of the replacements even came out worse with dead pixels and uneven lightings. We are paying premium for a device from a globally trusted brand so it's only reasonable to expect only the best; in short, the quality of the phone should match wholly our investment.

Personally, I made peace with the iPhone's display—when it comes to its warmth or coolness level anyway—thinking it's the least of my problems. It took me a long time to reach that point after getting the same dull displays for over four years. I've already made a stern decision to settle with a warm display over any other issues; but it's mostly due to colour filters, and without it I'd still be massively upset. I also just didn't bother this year considering how incredibly tight stocks must be... I can't afford to wait severals weeks for my replacement unit to arrive. Jet Black 256 GB is especially rare at the moment.

iPhone 5s to iPhone 7 — they all looked similar to each other; like someone from inside the factory actually urinated on them. I think the iPhone 7 looks especially worse without colour filters on, but I will still have to confirm this later by taking a picture. I immediately rushed to the settings to crank the intensity and hue levels as soon as the display lit up so needless to say, it wasn't a very pretty sight to see. It's probably due in part to my consistency with bluer displays.

If your merchant can replace your unit immediately, or at a shorter time span, then it might be worth a shot! Unless Apple explicitly states somewhere that these warm displays are normal, I don't think it's unreasonable for anyone to seek a replacement. At the end of the day if its present state bothers you, then it bothers you and no one else can decide otherwise for you.

It's definitely warmer; do let us know what the representative tells you. They might redirect you to a local merchant (usual response) for replacement, but it's still making me curious.

Mine is more on the cooler bluish side same with my 6s plus.

My iPhone 7 Plus definitely exhibits a yellowish tint. That said, it's readily apparent to me only when I place it alongside my iPhone 6 Plus.

Also, I try not to be too finicky. I understand why others would be unnerved by the warm display; the iPhone is, after all, not cheap, and Apple does promise a delightful experience with its products starting from the opening of their packaging. I just don't want to go down a slippery slope and fuss about the unit I have instead of counting my blessings and finding reasons to appreciate it. Fate may spite me and, as Edelheid noted in his post, provide me with a replacement that has a pristine display but then possess other characteristics that truly render it unusable.

 

My mom's iphone 7 was warm when we first got it, I just adjusted the color tint and she's fine with it naman

 

i would usually alternate between an iphone then android and so on yearly. coming from android phones which are super saturated i find the shift back to apple jarring iphone really is warmer to the eyes. very evident when i place my android and iphone side by side.

& just to let everybody know: Colour Filter and Night Shift are off.

They all have certain levels of unusual warmness, but poor picture quality may present at least two of them as neutral white. I can confirm that my iPhone 7 indeed has the worst display among them. The iPhone 6s and iPhone SE are almost equal, and yes those two are the best of the four. Honestly, even without colour filters the 6s is already acceptable to me.

I've noticed a new issue with my iPhone 7; the bottom part of the display (with colour filters on) shows a slight hint of yellow—which isn't very noticeable unless you look for it—despite the upper and middle portion being bluer thanks to hue and intensity adjustments. Not sure if this calls for a replacement, but my only real main concern is if this is an actual defect that may get worse in the coming months. I can live with the horrifying yellow on my iP7 just as long as colour filters continue to exist, but not if there's an underlying issue somewhere.

Now if only I can remember what my iP6s looked like when I first got it. Was it significantly warmer than its present state or... (So I can begin praying for the life of my iP7.)

 

Same with my unit.

compared to my iPhone 6s 64GB Replacement unit and iPhone 6. for some reason iPhone 6s/6 has almost the same white screen and my iPhone 7 has yellowish one.

Compared it with 4 demo units and viola yellowish lahat.

for iPhone 7/7+ users that has white/blueish screens by default can you show us photos for comparison? if possible

I might just stick with mine. I'm already dreading the thought of asking for a Jet Black 256GB replacement. I think many—if not most—displays have some sort of issue to a degree. It's only a matter of getting a device that your tolerance can put up with, or a replacement that's better than the other ones you've had. For my situation, I think my tolerance can keep up with my current display hiccup so long as it's not going to get worse than its present state.

I've done my research and apparently the bottom half of the iPhone 7 showing a yellow tinge is common among Jet Black owners. But of course, if the phone already has a ridiculously warm screen like mine and you never adjust the hue, then you won't notice this particular issue. It's only noticeable if you adjust it to look bluer; the top will take on the change just as you would normally expect it to but the bottom half will have a faint yellow—now how faint it is will depend on your device because apparently some of them are worse than the others. This is why I've almost decided to just keep mine.

I'm hoping that similar to shying away from easily worn out mechanical home buttons this year, the switch to AMOLED—or whatever display they have in mind—next year will greatly reduce these problems we're currently suffering from. I used to worry about the display and home button each time a new iPhone is taken out of its box, but now it's been reduced by one. Hopefully, burn-in issues aren't going to take the place of our existing display worries and instead Apple delivers an elegant execution that doesn't compromise.

Come on Apple, surprise us with a magical/revolutionary display sans the problems that are typically tied to them... lol

They've raised an interesting point: shouldn't we be expecting a brighter display? I just compared my iPhone 6s to the iPhone 7 and the former is oddly brighter when it shouldn't be. What I've done is simply reduce the brightness of both devices down to the lowest possible (none of them with reduce white point or colour filters enabled) and the iPhone 6s somehow came out victorious. Even with the brightness cranked all the way up the iPhone 6s still won.

what the flying f it feels like the deeper i inspect my device the more shit emerges and gets realised lol sometimes i wish to be a carefree consumer (with a ton of disposable income) who can just walk inside a store and ask for a toy in my favourite colour giving no regards to things like specs and ultimately come out happy after just 5 minutes. that way i wouldn't even have the personality to care let alone notice about how uneven my display is! haha

 

Did they allow you to keep your phone while waiting for the replacement?
